Grote just hit for the cycle--anamoly?

I read someplace that hitting for the cycle was much rarer than a no-hitter in the show. Yet hitting for the cycle seems like no big deal in ATG. Anybody have a thought?

Best,

Now that you mention it, I believe I've seen a few more cycles than no hitters in strat. I believe it's an anomoly when anyone hits the cycle and especially when guys like Grote do it. Could you post a link to the boxscore?

Just a thought...

Given that ATG lineups are almost always several magnitudes better than those put on the field by a real team, or in a single-season SOM league, it follows that

A: at any given time, there are more players active who are capable of hitting for the cycle, increasing the odds of its occurrence; and

B: Since there are so many great hitters in just about every lineup, it becomes almost impossible for even the greatest pitchers to get through them three times without giving up a hit.

And I do think you're right. Cycles and no-hitters are both rare, but I think we do see far more cycles. But Grote doing it is still one in a million...

I've had 4-5 no hitters, icnluding one where the SP got injured and two RP finished the job, and another with VanderMeer where he gave up 3 runs on walks. I don't think I've ever had anyone hit for the cycle.
