MVP - Jack Clark
Despite an ugly AVG, he still led the team in several key categories like BB, Runs, HR, SLG & OBP, Just goes to show how bad my offense performed this season.
Season VI - .236 .416 .317
Season V - .268 .489 .331
Cy Young - Bill Dinneen
As much as I might have griped about Lemon, he really did not do that much worse from last season, and on the average my pitching DID improve from Season V, if marginally. However Dinneen gets the obvious nod, as he led the team in Wins, IP, WHIP & K's and led the rotation in ERA
Season VI - 4.51 1.43
Season V - 4.53 1.55
Rolaids Relief - S. Lyle
The bullpen was a big disappointment also, especially since it was supposedly a financial upgrade over Season V. When Lyle with a 1.44 WHIP is the best bet for Relief Ace, you know your pen is in trouble.
Disappointing Performance Hitter - C. Yaztremski
Yaztremski was not alone in underperforming, he just gets the nod as an obvious disappointment. I think the only category he had a higher result in was Errors. (from 9 to 11)
Disappointing Performance Pitcher - C. Lefferts
Despite no DH, Lefferts performance got a lot worse. You'd think with all the help I gave him in the pen he'd have improved (Season V was Lefferts & 4 RP under 1m) but apparently he decided this was a recipe for slacking off.
Season VI - 4.18 1.61
Season V - 3.41 1.39
Final Analysis: The increase in pitching spending was not worth the cost, considering the marginal improvement. That and the loss of Lou Gehrig (who I may never see again since he is now cheaper :( ) meant my offense was a lot weaker than had been expected. Cepeda & Clark simply were not good enough replacements for Gehrig & Greenberg. Kudos go out to Gehringer & Yount for decent improvements. Poor Gehringer scored 3x as often as he drove in runs due to the weakness of my 7-8-9 hitters (Bailey/Agee/Pitcher) and his own increase in OBP.
