I have used Carter a lot, often in pitcher's parks. I don't care about his average, or his OBP. He provides great D, durability, and a great source of power, even in pitcher's parks. Clemente was platooned with Rice in RF. Expensive to be sure, but it was a $100m cap, so I figured, what the heck. Plus, when Clemente went down, it was nice to have Rice there to step in vs LHs.

I don't mind a poor batting average or a low HR number, but I can't afford both from him. Give me one or the other GARY! Oh yea, and throw out some base runners would you.

His average WILL be low. But, he should break out the power numbers at some point. I've had stretches where he was real quiet for me, and then he usually goes on about a week or 10 day tear. My advice is to keep him. But, if you can't live with him, DON'T drop him! You should be able to package him in a trade with someone in your league, and get a C more to your liking in the deal.

Carter, I believe, is a valuable weapon on a smallball team. OBP is not good, thats for sure, but batting him 4th in front of obp and speed has been very effective. He also negates the other teams ability to steal. My current team with Carter has only had 5 steal attempts in 21 games. Couple his hr's, which is useful in close games, great defense and durability and he should help you win games. Notice I say should! HAHA. Shoeless Joe batted .265 for me when I counted on .300 minimum. So... Overall my experience with Carter is 2 Complete teams (1 ring and 1 second place), and 1 in progress thats doing well...

Carter went off in the semis with 4 hr's in 2 games

Good Luck!

Carter on small ball champions

Postby boss_of_um » Mon Jul 24, 2006 7:13 pm

Here are a list of teams that Carter has won rings for me on a small ball team:

He has also been on other small ball playoff teams. Rick Dempsey and Ray Shalk also won multiple rings for me in Forbes.

Carter sucks

I need a shake up on my team, and would still take the deadbeat off your hands for the stellar Cochrane!
