Netplay III

replacement needed?

Postby davehaller » Sun Oct 09, 2005 2:52 pm

I understand there are a few managers who are not participating.
I have done netplay once before but that leauge ended and am hankering for more. Do you need a replacement?

There is one team that has been abandoned.

A couple of questions for you...

Do you have Yahoo IM? Or are you willing to use it?
Do you have time to play 3-4 series/weekly (1-1.5 hours/series)?

Our league constitution is posted above in this post if you want to see some of our rules. Let me know if you are interested and we'll go from there. :D

Suggestion for next league

Postby rjohaire » Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:53 am

I've floated this idea and there seems to be some interest.

Basically you would make up your team from the teams that played in the city/area.
I was thinking that using 1911, 34 and 55, no HOFers would make sense.

The cities/areas would be:
New York Yanks
Brooklyn Dodgers
NY Giants
Chicago
Philadelphia
Pitts and Cinn
StLouis
Clev and Detroit
Boston
Balt/Wash/KC and Milw

2 divisions, 5 teams each

I'd like to do a more recent season ('75 or later) w/o HOF'ers. But that isn't a deal-breaker for me.

Couple of draft/league twists that could also be interesting:

1. A "pick 'em and stick 'em draft." (Part of roster chosen by division rivals, part of roster drafted normally.) That way everybody would have deep flaws in their rosters, it would be interesting to see if you can manage your way around them.

2. A slow introduction of HOF'ers during the season. Everybody starts out with one drafted HOF, then at each 1/4 of a season (games 40, 81, 120) another HOF'er could be drafted. Draft order would be worst to first. That might keep interest for everyone, as someone who gets a little buried early might have a fighting chance to dig themselves out.

Just a couple of suggestions...the city/team idea sounds interesting too.

Toisan's HOF intro sounds interesting. Maybe 3 going to 5.

How about a league of 2 divisions with each drafted from a different year.
Maybe 1955 vs 1911?

Still at work every night past 8pm here. Leaving for Chicago tomorrow night and not returning until Monday some time.

Hopefully when I get to work Tuesday, I'll be given word that the horror might be over. Here's hoping for the best.

Shame I could not play while at work. Would never have missed a game form the start.

Format suggestion

Here's another idea to think on:

I'd like to see us play a year (any year) using franchises. I think the pre expansion years would be perfect, we can let the CM play the bottom 2 or 3 teams. You would need at least 5 managers in the AL and 5 in the NL. A HOFer can be subsituted for by the 2001 HOF card if the manager wants. Or we could set it up that the worse teams can get more HOFers. for instance 90+ wins no HOF, 81-90 (1) HOF, 70-81 (2) HOF & so on. Also we should consider no usage except on under a certain amount of ABs and IP.

I think a concept of this kind would be very easy...and fast...to get up and running.

Can't wait for this first season to be over. Definately out classed in my division and being schooled.
