Questions for SOM CD-ROM Owners

Questions for SOM CD-ROM Owners

Postby zippy4861 » Thu Jul 27, 2006 9:20 pm

I used to play SOM board game when I was a kid. I think I still have the 1969 cards. Anyway....I'm interested in purchasing the SOM v11.0 CD-ROM game and I would like to know more about it before I put money on it. I see there is a colored stadiums disk that costs extra. Is it worth the money? What does it do for me to have it? If I don't get it, how does the game compare? I also saw a post somewhere on here about some software for the card image viewer that is a "must have" item. I must be blind, because I don't see it in the products list of the SOM store. I would be interested in hearing peoples opinions about the game and anyone that can answer my questions and could point out where to find the card image viewer.

[/quote:e98760741c]Meh. All it is is a color backdrop of a stadium you see during the game; the names and ratings of the fielders, hitter and runners are superimposed over that background. If you don't have it, then you see a black & white backdrop of a stadium instead. It's useless as far as I'm concerned (hell, I even replace the B&W stadium with just a plain black background), but a lot of people do like it. I have seen the color ones, and they [i:e98760741c]do[/i:e98760741c] look nice; the photography is good.

Thanks for the insight Dean. Is the $49.95 version the one with the card viewer? That's all that I can find from the Strat store. If this isn't the correct one, then can someone point out a better link?

Thanks.

Thanks again. I just ordered mine along with the 2005 Play by Play disk. I don't know why the Sporting News/Strat store here doesn't have this as an option to purchase. It looks like strat-o-matic.com is the place to go for all future purchases.

Stadiums are a tossup. By them if you have the extra money. I think they should give you a plain board game background in color though.

The card images are a must. Don't bother ordering without the card images.
