Nice going Outta... I probably won't try Hassey in the future though, as I'd not look forward to an expensive platoon behind the plate.

It looks like I got '80 Porter so I dumped him for Kennedy who got off to a great start. Thanks Sykes for the recommendation on Kennedy. I've had him twice before...1 good experience and 1 bad. Looking forward to a good experience again, and his price tag is quite fair (maybe even a bargain).

Porter

Porter's a great pick, even in average years, as he'll still walk, and had a decent arm.

The guy I wonder about is Stearns. I actually drafted him and Wathan, for this base stealing catcher combo thing. I since went througb Porter and Sciosia, who is not hitting lefties (not to worry -- Wathan is).

What about ol' Stearns? He a good fit in pitcher's parks?

my first team had Boone who is an amazing defensive catcher...with 2 very good seasons, 2 ok seasons, and one sad season. I like the idea of a top defensive catcher who may not be a great hitter. On my other teams I tried Boone again and switched to Lavalliere, drafted Lavalliere, and drafted Whitt in the Kingdome since several people have touted him. To soon to tell on them yet.

I thought about Hassey in the Kingdome, but the 4 and +1 scared me.

If you can get Hassey to hit for you, you will not have to worry about the defense. He will make up for it.

Check out my results with Hassey: http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/80s/team/team_other.html?user_id=53999

If I can keep him healthy that is. He has been a monster at the plate.

It looks like there are more Hassey fans out there. In his three good years, he should hit if platooned.

In his two bad years, he probably doesn't hit enough to make up for the bad arm and limited range, so I would tend to dump him in those years. The one thing you can say for him defensively is that he has low errors and pb, and he won't throw the ball away. In other words, he won't make big plays for you, but he doesn't make many mistakes.

Maybe I should mention that I wouldn't normally buy a 2M catcher like Dempsey for the platoon. But I failed to get the cheap RH catchers I usually use--guys like Benedict, Wathan and B Martinez. And Laudner was in one of his off years, which are really off. And I had the spare cash--so Dempsey it was.
