Strat-O-Cheater

Strat-O-Cheater

Postby Crabby Appleton » Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:52 am

It was certainly a great Strato day with the arrival of ATG3 :D .....thoroughly enjoyable researching all the new possibilities and hoping to find that new undervalued Pete Fox or Bob Meusel.......until I checked my ATG2 teams and found a personal e-mail calling me a "Strat-o-Cheater".

This was the e-mail:

"It seems to me that you drafted many low inning, high productive
pitchers and plan to use a 7 man rotation or release them when they tire?
(assuming sporting news knows that you cannot go over usage without
big time tired arms resulting in poor performances) I cannot believe that
Russo does not have a hit on his card? I have played Strato for 35 years
and am amazed in this glitch....or not? Are you not in the spirit of
enjoying this sim or do only want to win and TWEEK the game to gets
results? I really do not care that much but PLEASE let me know your mind
set as if others are like this I really do not want to waste $25 and
continue here with Sporting news. Thank you. I know I cannot win unless
I do the same.......Thanks"

This is a great community and I am shocked, insulted and upset to be jumped on like this. Is this maybe a new manager? If so, pretty bold. Anybody have any words of wisdom for this guy?

By the way, my staff is: B Adams, M Russo, O Hildebrand, C Labine, B Loes, R Aguilera, D Hall, R Taylor, A Lopez, B Wade. Seems pretty legal to me.

um , isn't that what you are supposed to do

I'd chalk it up to inexperience from the sender and fo'get about it . Name names ! Maybe I'm in a league with this crackpot !

I don't know what's more childish. Grown men playing strato or that guys e-mail.

Let 'em talk. Just picture him speaking in a whiney baby voice; it always helps me to laugh.

"It seems you drafted many....", BLAH BLAH BLAH, blow me.

Looks to me like a brand new, very confused person lacking in people skills. :)

Just a guess. And certainly nothing to be concerned about. I'm guessing that your new nickname won't be S-O-C.

Probably a new guy who doesn't understand the difference between Strat and real life. That's a pretty good staff in the right park.

"Game the game"

Postby JAMESBEESON » Thu Aug 03, 2006 3:56 am

People play here for different reasons,me i play here because i have played Strat since 1964 and i also love baseball. One of my first pieces of advice was to "game the game". It then sometimes becomes not a baseball game to see who has the best team, but a card game to see who has the best cards, either way i enjoy it and if i win i try to learn and if i lose i try to learn. Some people play for the "fantasy" aspect, and thats ok also, you might cut this guy who e-mailed Crabby a little slack.

You know what I think? If you are capable of doing it - it's not illegal!!!!! Otherwise you wouldn't be able to do it. So don't whine about some implied "rules of good sportsmanship". Part of the fun of SOM is that you can play the "what if" game - what if I tried this...........what would happen? It's called imagination and creativity. And Crabby, what you are doing is just using the available cards - if this guy saw one of my "5-man pitching staff" teams of ATG II, he'd have a coronary!!!!

I'm in $200M leagues almost exclusively and to minimize HALs pitching decisions, I carry 10 pitchers of which 6 are starters (only). 4 of these cards start the other two just sit there with zero innings pitched. A while back I was accused of being a poor manager because I was "ignoring my players feelings". Actually Lefty Gomez had such a good time riding the pines this way he signed on again and again, so he must be enjoying himself.

My advise to you Crabby is continue to do what you're doing and enjoy it. Some people are as Kramer would say "are way out there..."

You've been trying to figure a way to replace the GB(A) on some cards with HR#....like a virtual eraser on the online cards

To avoid further controversy, that was said with a smirk and a pointy elbow firmly sticking in his ribs.
