I did an analysis of my 15 Championship teams. Found some really surprising results.

The players with the most rings:
Wills! 7
Oz 6
Rose 5
Gardner 4
Cobb 4
Chance 4
Yaz 4
Snider 3
Morgan 3
Speaker 3
Ripper 3
Fox 3
Evers 3

Absent regulars: My favorite SS -Bowa (on at least 40 teams, including active), Clemente, Yount, Hornsby, Bishop.

Banks and Mays only have 1 each.

Only one righthander on the list - Frank Chance!!

I play hitters and pitchers parks equally but the wins are distributed:
Forbes 4
Candlestick 2
Dunn 2
Griffith 2
Oakland 73 1
Baker
Polo
Yank 56
Dodger 65

Absent: Fenway 67, Huntington, Yankee 27, Metropolitan

I guess I'm better at small ball. Had no idea. Had no idea that Wills and Gardner were so effective.

For pitching:
Clemens 8
Grant (!) 6
McLain 5
Lolich 5
Cuellar 4
Knepper 3
Kaat 3

All smallball pitchers. Grant has been great for me, but need to pick and choose his starts. I use Hunter much more often but he only has 1 ring.
One thing these guys all have in common is lots of #'s.

I've won a couple with Wills also. You might have prompted me to take a look at what suprises I may have. I know I rarely use J. Robinson (maybe 4 times) but he's won a couple of Rings for me and always made the playoffs.....

I set up a spread sheet to do the same thing. I was surprised myself. These are the ones that stand out. I use a lot of different players.

SPs- Buhl 5 times, Hughson 4 times, Vuckovich 4 times.
RPs-Hall 5 times, Worrell 4 times.
C- Parrish 4 times, Carter 2 times
1b-Hernandez 3 times
2b-Collins, Gehringer, and Fox each 2 times.
3b-Pendleton 3, Boggs and Mathews 2
ss-Trammell and Smith 3
lf-Keller 3, Jojo Moore 2
cf-Hack Wilson 2
rf- Clemente, Furillo and Gwynn 2

On 10 championship teams I've had:
24 SPs
23 RPs
6 c
8 1b
7 2b
6 3b
6 ss
7 lf
9 cf
7 rf

Parks-
Forbes 06 3 times

I ran the numbers a few weeeks ago, here is my record by park type:

Total 3882/3498 0.526

The results are about the same even though the total is now at about 8,000 games.

Makes me wonder why I would ever play outside of Forbes or Dunn.

So what did I did I do about it? My last 3/4 teams drafted were extreme sluggers squads at Polo and Fenway ..... :lol: :shock:

It's easy to win, just tough to win it all, especially if you go against an extreme pitching team.

I haven't have time for a thorough look, but a quick glance turned up Bowa on a couple of championship teams. That should give you enough justification to continue trying to weasel him away from me in drafts.

I'm on vacation this week, like to enjoy the New England foliage. Of course it has rained unceasingly for the past week. So, my next task is to compile records per park for my 90+ completed teams (currently have about 45 active as of next Monday). Then I will look at the overall records of Bowa, Mays, Cobb, Hornsby, Cooper, Simmons (Al not Ted) --my personal favorites. Will post when done.

Nev is also a Bowa fan. But he is still in the closet. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

When I first started playing I could almost always get Bowa. Now if I don't draft him in the top six: forgetaboutit.

Someday I'll compile composite personal records against top competitors. THAT should be interesting.

Grindi turned me on to Knepper. But I've never used Buhl and the one time I drafted Boggs I think I had my worst season ever -- 70ish wins. I had enough of him by 1985 in past FTF leagues to know the insidious, toxic effects his presence has on my teams. :lol:
