A couple thoughts on things that TCochran, Mike and UNC discussed:
I agree 100% with limiting prospects to only 2 or 3. I dont like the supplemental drafts and a smaller roster size is something that I think would help. Here is something that my face to face C&D league does- We give a larger roster size to the weaker teams. The formula we use wouldnt be relevant to these leagues but it could be something as simple as sixth place record gets one extra roster spot, seventh two, and so on til the worst record has six extra roster spots. Between the draft, trading and the extra roster spots it should be easy to build a good team in just a year or two at the most.
I like not picking up undrafted players (ie no supplemental draft). I am opposed to a lottery - I know that if I cant win then I will still tank to have a chance at that first pick. Using the NBA as an example, the worst record has more ping pong balls and a better chance to get the first pick. Even if you limited it to a straight lottery where team six has the same chance as team 12 I surely would try not to be team 7 left out of the playoffs and out of the lottery.
I am opposed to open trading for one reason. If I am going to spend the time to research everyone's team and find a good trading partner where the trade is a win-win for both of us, I dont want someone else cherry picking off of my work and just one upping me to prevent me from getting the player I need.
I think trading draft picks helps with the number of trades and options out there. I dont like trading picks beyond the next season though. I dont like someone trading their next two or three first round picks and then quitting the league leaving a shamble of a team with no first round picks that nobody wants to inherit.
