"Alpha" Filled and Loaded!

PostTue Nov 11, 2014 1:40 pm

Alphabet Soup
$80 mil. 5-10-20. Advanced. DH.

0. We randomize 1-12 for draft order on the Individual Chat Board, once we are full here. At that time, we'll begin a draft. No clock this weekend, if we fill, but starting Monday Morning at 9 a.m. eastern, a 3-hour draft window will go into effect until 11:00 p.m. EST.

1a. First Round: Going 1-12, we choose ONE letter of the alphabet corresponding to the entire pool of ATG8 hitters. The only hitters from which we can choose are those whose last names start with THAT LETTER we have chosen.

1b. Drafting of Hitter letter pools continues up from 12-1 until we complete the choices. Each manager would wind up with TWO letters for his hitters, and the LOCATION in the managers' team names should be two words that reflect these two letters (B and I choices would yield a location like "Bimini Isle" for example)

(To get to 24 letters in the pool, I've combined "I" and "Q." There are no "X" players)

Here is the count of Hitters cards by the letter of their last name:

A 85
B 253
C 220
D 138
E 39
F 85
G 155
H 184
IQ 6
J 102
K 87
L 110
M 287
N 26
O 56
P 114
R 147
S 231
T 106
U 8
V 27
W 152
Y 21
Z 7

2a. Round TWO of the draft is for Pitchers. The same procedure BUT, the manager who selected LAST in the hitters draft, will now select FIRST. The manager who picked FIRST will now select LAST. So, draft order is 1-12, 12-1 for hitters, then 12-1,1-12 for pitchers.

2b. Again, we will continue until each manager has TWO letters for his pitchers (along with the TWO letters for his hitters.) Once more, as with the hitters, Each manager would wind up with TWO letters for his pitchers, and the TEAM NAME should be composed of two words that reflect these two letters (G and M choices would yield a teamname like "Green Monsters" for example)

Here is the pitcher card count distribution for each letter:

A 44
B 190
C 134
D 97
E 24
F 74
G 92
H 145
IQ 6
J 38
K 61
L 92
M 185
N 42
O 25
P 88
R 116
S 181
T 54
U 6
V 17
W 103
Y 11
Z 10

5. Stadium selection would be the choice of the manager.

6. We will draft as a frenzy because there will be no waivers, and there will be no duplication of players.

7. The Letters you choose will remain the ONLY players from which you can fill your rosters throughout the season. . . So, choose wisely.

8. Before the Autodraft runs, any manager may TRADE LETTERS with other MANAGERS. They need, however to inform the group on the board if/when they do so. We're depending on the honor of everyone here, which I know is sterling.

9. Once we are filled, I suggest a four hour "blackout period" during which we can ALL prioritize the Alpha Lists. Let's keep things moving once we get going. Proxies are urged (after all, we all should have at least a 10-deep priority order which we can send to someome who has already chosen so we don't get bogged down waiting for one guy.)

10. Start calculating your choices now so when we get to you in the draft list, you will be ready, or proxied up.

SIGNUP ORDER . . . Draft order being determined now by Randomizer. and will be posted in next message when received.

No clock right now until 5 tonight, then a three-hour clock this evening until 11. HOWEVER, the clock may get around to your sooner than this. PLEASE keep it moving.

So, jump in to get it going, or send a priority proxy list of your letter picks -- to someone who just picked so he can post it for you.

Will pitcher draft be done concurrently with the hitter draft or wait until the hitter draft is done?

Two questions to the group.

1. Mr BBW brings up a good point: On the way UP from 12-1, should we also have managers select their pitching choices along with their second hitting group? It WOULD speed things up? I say we should.

2. Is 3 hours too much time? Perhaps tomorrow, everyone can be ready OR proxied up for a 2 hour per turn time limit?

Let me know, guys.

I'm ready. Anything to speed it up is fine with me. Even a concurrent separate draft for pitchers with a reverse order is fine with me.

What about the guys who can be picked in two groups(have both a hitting and pitching card): Babe Ruth, Joe Wood and Martin Dihigo. Are there any others?

The rules would argue that if you pick "R" for hitters, but "K" for pitchers, for example, you would have access ONLY to Ruth's hitting card. And vice-versa if you have the "R" pitchers. You'd have Ruth available to pitch, but NOT hit.

Absent Objections, let's try to accept the "MR. BBW COMPROMISE"

Once we are done with the first round of hitters, the SECOND round will be for both hitters (12-1) and pitchers as well at the same time.

This should speed things up.

(Scumby: your idea is good, but a few folks here are not "veterans" in this type of draft, so the BBW Compromise seems to work)

Any objections, please voice them.

We'll stick to the 3 hour rule for the first round, for now
