I agree with Big M. Just did a LD last night and it went smoothly. Drafting on the boards is way less desireable and a deal breaker for me.

The draft I was in last night rarely did the time go the whole 60 seconds. And the entire draft took 90 minutes so I would assume with a 120 second limit it would be completed in no more than 3 hours.

Additionally Diamond Dope was dissolved (at least for non-ATG) and that's not an option, nor would I want it to be an option.

Bigmahon,

Thanks for the response. Actually I have played many fantasy sports with live drafts and they are my favorite part of the season.

Like I said, I'm not opposed to this type of draft in SOM either but its the timing I don't like. None of us have any experience with these cards yet. In fantasy baseball a live draft is much easier. If I have a guy ranked 4th and he goes right in front of me I'm picking the guy I have ranked 5th right behind him. Not so in SOM. I might have a strategy where I think I might get a SS that I want for $6 mil, if he goes there may not be another one near his price that I want. Do I spend more than $6 mil? Maybe my second choice is a bargain guy or a platoon guy for $2 mil...but wait let me see if I can find someone for the other half of the platoon! Now where do I spend the extra money? At what position? My 3rd baseman is off the board too!

Way too much going on, way to many changes in in such a short amount of time for cards we haven't played with yet. I can do it if we were playing 2012 or ATG but we're not. Not everybody, in fact most of us, do not have ratings for these players so it puts us at a HUGE disadvantage from those who do.

In addition this draft IMO will take longer than a fantasy draft with the same time limit. I can guarantee you if it is 2 minutes per pick I will probably take AT LEAST 40 minutes total just for myself where fantasy would take me about 10-12 minutes for the same amount of players and I know I'm not the only one who will need the time. It is not reasonable to expect everyone to have a queue of players at each position in a salary cap league. That would take way too much time with adjusted strategies.

I'm all up for playing and I don't necessarily have the answer other than to say I don't think this is it and I actually would rather do a forum draft than that.

gbrookes,

Thanks for that. That would settle all of our problems nicely if they would actually implement it.

In addition I don't compare the NLD to any other live draft. I think the level of play is much better here and I think that would be reflected with more time taken with each pick. Public leagues tend to go much quicker with people just picking the next guy in line salary wise or even let HAL draft guys for them. No comparison.

I'm really busy at work this week. I'll try to get an answer from strat, by phoning them if necessary, on the timing of the longer turns for the live draft system. They've been very approachable and accessible for me in the past couple of years. So I do expect to have a decent answer on timing by the middle of next week. At least we should know whether it's a couple of weeks away, a couple of months away, or completely indefinite (which I doubt will be the case).

Hi Corky,

I started the new thread because, normally, we start a new one when we start talking about the new league. IDK, maybe jumped the gun. <shrug>

While I agree that using the new LD is less than optimal, I'm not sure what options we have. DD is gone I guess (haven't checked), and a forum draft is unacceptable to more than one person in the league.

There aren't any good options. I just wish the stupid draft didnt have Hal pick someone for you. That's just a receipe for disaster, or, if you don't clean up your queue, you may end up with two 6+ mill Shortstops. Ugh. If it just skipped you I would be MUCH more comfortable with the situation.

I wonder if we can do a "real-time" forum draft which would allow us to move quickly, yet not have Hal hanging over our heads. Don't know, just trying to think outside the box.

GB, let us know what you hear.

Looks like Zim is out so we'll need at least one replacement. I'll ping those who haven't checked in, or, Big M, feel free to. I think you have all the email addys too.

No promises, but I understand that I shouldn't give up hope for the PC finals, which is in late March/early April.
