Perhaps it's just me, but I do not recall this league ever deciding on a prospect draft yet?

This is what you had in the original rules:

PROSPECT DRAFT
1) There will be no prospect draft in this league, until we have played all of the older seasons.
2) Effective with the 2013 season, we will hold a prospect draft after the annual free agent draft, with managers drafting up to 2 prospects per year -- prospects are those players who have never received a card yet and draft sequence will be random and serpentine.
3) Prospects may be held indefinitely, until such time as a player receives a card, at which point the prospect must be either promoted or dropped -- with managers holding no more than 4 prospects at any one time.

However if you or anyone else wants the trade voided because we have not started the prospect drafts yet and the rules may change I certainly understand.

My apologies to Jon and Jack. Yes, that is the rule we used to start this league, after voting upon it in the Reelin' in the Years League.

The trade is perfectly valid as long as you realize you are talking about the 2013 season and not for the 2012 season, right?

By the way, the prospect draft is the subject of a heated discussion in the Reelin' ILC at the moment. If you are not also in that league, then you might want to review the bidding over there...

Thanks, I'll go ahead and confirm the trade if there are no objections. I will drop 3B Jack Hannahan and P Ubaldo (oops, maybe he is not rediscovering past glory) Jimenez.

Interesting debate in the Reelin' forum, I think that as long as the prospect draft is held in March/early April it makes the draft enough of a guessing game that the best prospects are not all taken. But as someone pointed out in the Reelin' forum even June stats are subject to change quite a bit. Look at Brett Lawrie, who was great for around 150 ab's in 2011 and since then has been average at best (hey, wait a minute I'm trading for this knucklehead?). Hosmer, Moustakas, Beckham, etc. no such thing as a sure thing. In the opposite direction, if you look at a lot of past great players they started out slowly and/or had sophomore slumps and at that point in their careers were hardly "sure things", so who knows?

I also think that in 12 team leagues there are still quite a few good prospects left over after the draft. 24 team leagues might be a differnt story, I think regardless of league size the number of prospects selected in a draft should be 48 at most and 24 would probably be ideal.

As noted this morning in the league mail:

travelingjack wrote:So, I'm going to be the Designated Snitcher and let you know that visick is using a 28 man roster and appears to have been doing so for a while.

This is diappointing, since the rules were posted in the ILC on April 29, the same day that visick joiined the league.

FYI, the rules are also available on their original page at http://forum.onlinegames.strat-o-matic. ... 8&t=629214 and they have been added to the rosters doc at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... jOGc#gid=8

In any case, the pertinent section says:

ROSTERS
1) Each team may carry a 40 man roster.
2) In the event a transaction sends an owner's roster above the limit, said owner is allowed 1 day to release as many players as necessary to get back to the limit. However if an owner has fewer than the limit due to uneven trades, the owner cannot bring the roster back to the full level until the next annual or supplemental draft.
3) The regular season begins with a standard 25-man active roster. The remaining players on the roster are the sole property of the team that drafted them and may not be used by any other team. These players are considered to be in your minors, even though teams will have to “release” them into the Free Agent pool, since the TSN/SOM site is not set up for keeper leagues.
4) There will be no limits to transactions between an owner's major and minor league rosters, except those internal to the SOM game engine.
5) In the event of injuries, it will not be necessary to release the injured player. A replacement may be called up for the duration of the injury, but he or another player must be returned to the minors -- "free agent" status in the TSN/SOM system -- before the next series. Managers are responsible for doing this on the honor system.
6) Each team may add an additional 3 players to their active MLB roster (to a maximum of 28 players) after game 132 has been played.
7) Prior to each night's play, each manager will make sure his/her team has the appropriate total number of players on the active roster; i.e., no more than 25 or 28, depending on the number of games played in the season, with the exception that injured players need not count against such total at that moment in time.
8) All teams must meet SOM roster requirements at all times.

As far as I know, these are pretty typical keeper league rules. I had just been getting ready to remind managers that they could increase their active rosters to 28 players after game 132.

It's challenging to come up with a fair resolution to this error, since there are no "do-overs" that might allow managers who lost games due to visick's extras to give it another shot.

Perhaps the best solution might be for visick to only carry 25 players for the rest of the year, while the rest of us increase to 28 after game 32.

What do you think?

Gentlemen,
I apologize for breaking the rules of the league. Nothing was intentional on my part. It's no excuse, but I play in a number of leagues, and I didn't pay attention to the rules. Had it been intentional, I probably would have carried an extra player rather than 3 extras.

Yes I have been carrying more than 25 players on my roster, and that is a violation. I will get down to 25 ASAP.

I've been an active member of the Strat community since it's inception. I've played all of the games. I contribute on the boards helping out when I can.

I made an honest mistake. I admit it.

There are many leagues that I run, that I am the commissioner. I enforce the rules of the league. When I see something that doesn't look right or breaks the rules, I am on it and correct it right away. In a league that I just ran, a manager that's been around the same time I have and a huge contributor to the boards made a honest mistake.

It would have been nice for someone to correct me right off the bat, maybe a little hint that day. And I use a personal message to the offending manager first, rather than "outing" that manager, like what's been done here.

I'm not justifying my mistake. I'm just saying this could have been handled differently.

So, I'll fix the problem and get down to 25. Whatever my punishment is, I accept it.

Darin (visick)

PS- Not to sound like a whiny little bitch, but I'm gonna bow out after this season. I don't need situations handled the way this was handled.
