We are all set to go with 24 teams checked in! Thanks everyone for checking in early. Lots of great trade activity over the past couple days too. A couple of things:
(1) My proposed rule change from early January did not pass. Not everyone voted, but there have been 10 no's already so that it will not reach the super-majority (16 votes) required.
(2) There has been a lot of discussion and good points made on both sides about when prospects may or have to be promoted pursuant to the rules. If anyone wants to change the current rule, they can propose doing so at any time. But for reasons stated by tvf33 and others over the past couple weeks, the rules are:
Prospect Player rules:
1) The maximum number of prospects allowed on each roster is 10.
2) Prospects are not counted as part of the 30 man roster while they maintain their prospect status.
3) Owners control the rights of their prospects for an indefinite period but your team may never have more than 10 prospects at a time.
4) Prospects can be traded.
5) Prospects can be promoted to the major league roster at any time, provided there is roster space available. Once promoted all prospects lose their prospect status, and cannot be demoted back to prospect status.
6) Prospects must be promoted if they have been carded for more than one season. These prospects must be promoted, traded, or cut by the keeper/cut deadline.
This means that when the cards come out (a) any prospect that gets carded for a 2nd time MUST be promoted to your protected twenty list or released to the FA pool prior to the FA draft (Maikel Franco, Javier Baez, Mike Olt, Trevor May to name a few) and (b) if a prospect has been carded only one time, you can (but do not have to) promote him at any time there is room on your roster -- at the end of the FA draft or during the season (so long as you have less than 30 players on your roster).
The cards will likely be out some time between mid-February and early March. Looking forward to it!
