My thoughts:
It is almost impossible in a 24 team league to rebuild your team with the free agent draft. This year we have 25 hitters above a 3 mil salary and 23 pitchers above a 3 mil salary. So, theoretically, by the end of the 2nd round there would be NO players over a 3milion salary left. So starting the third round players that would make a real difference in a team are very limited.
We have 15 hitters and 36 pitchers in the $2 million - $2,999,999 dollar category. These players are borderline. They theoretically would be gone by the end of the fourth round expect for a few flyers. Four rounds are 96 players and there are 98 players at the $2 million and above.
With the fifth round we begin a journey of players that have a futile chance of making a difference for the teams. There are 48 hitters and 49 pitchers in the 1,999,999 to 1,000,000 mil salary. Then to make matters more pointless, we have 131 hitters and 144 pitchers from 999,999 to 500,000 salary for a total of 275 free agents below a 1 million dollar salary. Together this group totals 372 free agents to choose from with a salary of 1,999,999 or less for rounds 5 to round 12+.
All of this leads to my point that we need to add the unleashed set to this 24 TEAM league. It would give the lower teams a chance to hopefully to pickup more than a occasional 2/3 players that can actually help. I think this was brought up last year for a vote but was voted down. It's time to rethink this FA draft for a 24 team league. And yes, opinions are like a-----s, everybody has one.
Good luck this year everyone.
Another thought on this is that lower tier teams get a larger roster and we are able to draft any player with MLB experience. Every season there are "surprise" prospects that pop up. for example in another league years ago I drafted Tanner Scheppers and Trevor Rosenthal who were not carded and one year later had two excellent closers....
I believe Ghost makes excellent points for a potential vote next year.
