We have a majority willing to try the 24 team league so let's give it a shot. I'll post now for a new manager. Hang tight but check back on this string regularly so we don't lose too much time.

Before we just blow by the finish in the 70's.

Congrats to sphilip8's Dodgers on coming back to win the last two and take the 70's - 2 title. Best team during the season prevails. Excellent run by Crusty Crabs Rangers, I thought for sure with Jenkins on the hill Texas would pull it out...but that's why you play the games.

As I was consolidating the rules for the 80's I paused at the current keeper rule of 20 from season 1 to 2. Seems heavy now. I'm inclined to drop it to 15 for a couple reasons, 1) rosters can be as low as 23 and 2) less keepers further establishes the free agency ERA. Yes I know we have the 2 round free agency draft at the end of season one but a little more natural movement of a few lower end players I think is a healthy thing.

If anyone feels strongly about keeping the keepers at 20 please post a comment.

24 Team 80's Franchise/Mystery Regs Needs 1 manager

PostWed Feb 01, 2017 1:54 pm

Re-posting league rules...

Yes you read that right, a 24 team Mystery league. Due to our player restrictions I've gotten the go ahead from SOM to give this a try.

I’ve always enjoyed the Mystery sets and the Franchise leagues based on the ATG set. So, inspired by the creative leagues I’ve played in from warrenbob, gbrookes and marcpelletier…how about we combine them? A multi year (2 season or more) keeper Franchise league based on the Mystery sets!

OUR 80's SEASON WILL BE A 24 TEAM LEAGUE WITH MANAGERS HAVING BOTH AN AL AND NL TEAM. Schedules will be league exclusive so your teams won't play each other unless they both make the World Series.

There are 26 Franchises from the 80’s that have enough players to field full teams, which I list below. We will need to weed out 2 AL teams to balance the leagues.

To keep with the theme I broke down the players by how many years they played, see spreadsheet in google docs https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
for each franchise and wrapped the rules around that as follows.

-Every player on your roster must have at least 1 yr carded OR have played for your franchise. These are indicated on the spreadsheet as follows:
All Players have a Core5, Core4, Core3, Core2 or Core1 designation as listed on the google spreadsheet (see link above). To establish which clubs could use which players we started in the 60's using ONLY the carded franchises. In the 70's we expanded that a bit to allow clubs to use players that played for but weren't card to franchises. Now in the 80's we'll continue with allowing clubs to use players that played for but aren't carded to franchises but will now include a Free Agency draft at the end of season 1.

For 80's season 1, Core5/4 players cannot be auto drafted by any other franchise other then their Core5/4 franchise. All other players Core3/2/1 can be auto drafted by any listed franchise. After the auto draft any Core5 players that has another franchise listed (not carded but played for) or any Core4 or and Core3/2/1 not auto drafted can be picked up on waivers by any of the franchises listed for that player. Trades are allowed but must be between franchises listed on the spreadsheet for that player. By rule then any Core5 player that doesn't have another franchise listed is exclusively yours or if a Core4/3 player ends up being affiliated with one of the two weeded out franchises, they also are exclusively yours...and that means you don't have to auto draft them.

Now for the keeper side of the equation. To mirror real franchises as much as possible we've kept 20 players per season. For the 80's we will drop that to 15. Also I always thought that the revolving door that exists in the Mystery leagues where you drop Jackson or Ryan on their 'worst' years was an unfortunate side effect to the format...so as a motivator to keep those guys, any Core5 or Core4 players dropped cannot be on your roster the next season. You can however drop them and pick them back up, just needs to be by game 141 so they are on your roster at the end of the season.

Ok so here are the current franchises taken and draft order for other club.
1. New Manager: Team1-
2. fench33: NL-Giants, AL-
3. Davesodu: AL-Yankees, NL-
4. gbrookes: NL-Expos, AL-
5. Ed2014: AL-White Sox, NL-
6. YountFan: AL-Brewers, NL-
7. Rosie: AL-Orioles, NL-
8. jjrecupero: NL-Pirates, AL-
9. Falcon: AL-Red Sox, NL-
10. CrustyCrab: AL-Rangers, NL-
11. franky35: NL-Reds, AL-
12. sphilipp8: NL-Dodgers, AL-
13. New Manager: Team2-

Once we have a new manager will will draft your other franchise in the order listed above.
1) Pick any available Franchise
2) Format is DH
3) Pick the 80's Stadium of your franchise
4) Minimum 2 season commit, ideally we play 2 seasons in each decade rolling with your chosen franchise the whole way.
5) Salary cap $100
6) Trades are allowed but all players involved must be carded to or have played for those franchises

Fire me any questions

Will we play 24 teams in the 90s? Could make the Braves more palatable for the sucky 80s if we have a good 90s decade ahead.

I appreciate all the effort put into the upcoming season and the 60's and 70's too. I plan on this 24 80's team being my final team(s) for this league format. If you would prefer to have a manager that wants to be in for more than one season, I am okay with being replaced. Otherwise, I look forward to trying one more time (with two teams) to try and win the league championship.

Thanks for all your work with the leagues Rosie.

Good luck to everyone.

^^^ Rosie - when we pick our second franchise, if a player is carded to both of the two franchises, for the sake of the league's rules, would we consider the players carded years for the two franchises together?

So, if I pick a franchise that is not currently being used, such as the NY Mets. I have several Expos 80s players carded to the Expos that are also carded to the Mets. For example, Ellis Valentine is carded three years to the Expos and 2 years to the Mets. Does he then become a 5 year carded player to my combined Expos-Mets? Does that mean that I control him in the autodraft? Although he is also shown as California, he is not carded to California. If someone else picks California as a franchise, can they pick him up, or do I control his rights? (Part of this is a refresher course on the new rules, for me, because I can't remember what the new rule is even if he was carded 5 years to the Expos only!).

Thanks Rosie!

Hey Geoff

No the players remain the Core level they are for each franchise, so Ellis would remain a MON3, NYM2, CAL1. Therefore under those designations would not be controlled by any one franchise and the auto draft ranking would rule.

Now let's play out the Core5 scenario. I'll use Jesse Orosco since he is a Core5 that played for other clubs. He is a NYM5 LA1 CLV1 so for season 1 he is controlled by the Mets through the auto draft. After the auto draft if the Mets did not place him on their auto draft he is available to be picked up by any of the three franchises he is affiliated with. So in essence any Core5 player that is affiliated with other non-carded franchises is now treated like a Core4.

Does that answer your questions?
