FA clarification, if I were to leave Jim Rice off my AutoDraft list because he only played for Boston, nobody can pick him up as a Free Agent, right? It's only players who never played for any of the 12 teams we chose that are Free Agents, correct? :?:quote]

My understanding is that you run the risk of losing him. The way I read the rules:

1- Rice can not be drafted on purpose ( thus, the honesty clause) but could legitimatley be give to a team as a replacement via auto draft AND can be selected as your FA hitter
2- Taken in waivers because all FA are free game

That's my take

This is my understanding also, after having read the post containing the discussion from an earlier league. If a player is not on our draft card, regardless of his status, he is fair game as a free agent. We'll need a confirmation from the commish, of course, because if this is not the case and we retain the rights to players who've only played for our franchises, that affects our draft plans indeed.

It has to be that way.

Example: Frank Thomas played for ChiSox, Toronto, and Oakland. Thus, I got him locked up but only if I put him on my draft card.....which I will do....and rank him at the bottom.

If I didn't draft him, I would never expect him to be mine - clearly he'd be a FA.

That said, if he winds up on another team after waivers than someone cheated ;)

To give everyone a fair chance to poach players from each other I will start the league on Wednesday about 7am west coast time. That will give us waivers on Friday with the weekend to fine tune your team.

What if everyone can't get their teams in by Wednesday? Then waivers would be run over the weekend, if the league fills by Friday. I usually don't even start thinking about my team until the league is posted. On the other hand, some managers are ready to go now. The sooner the league is posted, the sooner it will fill and the better off we'll all be. - Bernie

The honor system requires that if you accidentally end up with a player on somebody else's draft card but not on yours, you have to release that player.

Per the rules, you can put any player that played for your franchise - it does not matter that a player has a card for your specific franchise. Thats my understanding - see below

1) Choose an expansion team(ATG 8 post WW2 for EXP Franchise only for example, EXP Mon, EXP Chi) 125mil with DH CAP.
2) Populate your roster with players that played that franchise. I.e. Omar Vizquel played for Cleveland, Seattle, SFG, White Sox, Texas and Toronto making him eligible to be drafted by ANY of these franchises. Baseball Reference will be used to verify any disputes.
3) Your initial draft list must contain ONLY PLAYERS THAT PLAYED ON YOUR FRANCHISE. After the draft if you have any players that do not belong on your roster you will be expected to drop them and replace with available legal FA players. Exception: The replacement player from the draft is a player you want to keep on your roster, you will then designate that player as your FA keeper.

We've all chosen our franchises. Why wait until Wednesday to start the league? The more time we have to sort out and legalize our rosters, the better.

Woah guess I set off a firestorm here. First we have had 2 rounds to perfect the rules, to date there has been no problem in the draft. I thought it was clear however the draft process looks like it still is a little muddy. In the example of if you leave Rice(Or any player exclusive to your team) off your draft list, yes he is only eligible for the Red Sox however that immunity only applies to the first draft. Once the draft has been completed and if he is listed as a FA then he can be chosen by any other team if they so choose. So if you want to make sure Rice is on your team you need to put him on your original draft list. I have no interest in a frenzy as I'm not a fan of that. Not all people can be available for the start of a frenzy which is unfair IMO.

As for getting the league going I can compromise on that. So here's what I will do I will spend some time and get my team researched by Monday morning. I work 2-6 pm Monday I will have the league started by noonish or earlier. I personally need some more time to put my team together I figured some others might as well. The PW will be same as before twist all lower case.
