As you probably know we had only one prospect draft of four players in 2012 even though the rules dictate two separate drafts (two players each) --one in Spring and the other in Summer.
We need to clarify how we'll draft prospects from now on...either all four rounds in Spring or divided up into two drafts in the Spring and Summer. I happen to prefer one draft in the Spring as it's much easier to keep track of prospect timetables (you can only keep a player in prospect status for two years. That's not so difficult to navigate if you're confined to one Spring draft. But if it gets separated into two distinct time periods the job of keeping track of it all gets tough.
Therefore, I've agreed to take a vote on this. Either one Spring draft of four players or two drafts (Spring and Summer) of two players each.
Here are another league members' views on why he prefers one Spring draft over the two draft format...
1) New crop hasn't been drafted yet by the majors. -- No worries about who is eligible and who isn't, who has signed, etc.
2) The same above for the fact that it keeps the spring draft more interesting. - Top new picks are all still available in the spring. (It's very possible that you have a decent 1st season giving you a late round draft pick, but if you get slaughtered in the 2nd season, you get some recompense by getting those picks back in the middle.)
3) I like getting it out of the way in terms of keeping track of transactions. - It's "I trade my 2nd and 3rd round Pros pick" instead of "I trade my 2nd round spring and 1st round summer prospect pick". (just starts to get so confusing)
I'll start the vote in the next message....
