Commish and colleagues,
I wrote this for another AL/NL league as well-
Just a thought and if it doesn't resonate, that's fine, but I was thinking about the NL and AL leagues that I'm in. I really like the makeup of the teams- more realistic, but the losing of players due to mlb trades really puts a crimp in the roster planning and every once in while a star is traded and the Strat team has no recourse but losing the player.
It's the same for everyone to be sure, but certain teams, through no fault of their own could get it hard.
A modest proposal could be, let's say in the next year's (obviously not this year) FA draft, if, after two, three or four rounds a supplemental draft held for a compensation player (max two or three rounds) for your traded players. The order would be by the highest salary player lost would get first compensation pick and so on- up to two or three compensation picks.
This proposal would not favor any team and would really help the league, I think. I know it would feel a lot better to know you would get some compensation for lost players. And, your compensation picks would be part of your keepers. i.e 13 keepers, two compensations= 15.
An example of 4th rounders from last year: R. Madson, J. Tomlin, J. Manship, C. Casali, D. Jennings, C. Smith, G. Parra, M. Lowe- not all-stars, but ok for compensation.
If this or something like it (compensation for traded players) has merit good but if not- ok too. Thanks
