Antone was ineligible to be signed as an offseason FA because 2020 was his MLB debut, but was eligible to be drafted as a prospect b/c he was carded (i.e., just like Victor Gonzalez, who I drafted as a prospect, and have now promoted for season 2). Phil goes on to say that Antone CAN now be signed in this supplemental FA period, because the only requirement is that he's carded and pitched at least 30 IP. It no longer matters that 2020 was his debut.
So, with that clarified, Oldmansmith should be able to nominate the first player.
Why are we now allowing the signing of players (like Antone) who were ineligible last January just because he has 30+ IP? It's not like we're playing a different season. We are just playing 2020 a second time. He should still be a prospect until free agency rolls around next January. Allowing prospects to be signed now is totally unfair to the people who are not participating in the supplementary free agency or to the ones that are but have very little salary cap space. Phil in my opinion you had it right when you posted that the ones that were ineligible last January should still be ineligible now. There was just a little hiccup when you updated the availables list and had all the unsigned players listed whether they were eligible or not. You explained that and I figured we were good to go. That's why I left Matt Andriese up as my first bid. I hope you will take what I'm saying about fairness into consideration especially since this will be the last supplemental period. But if it's your decision to let prospects who meet the 30IP/50AB requirement to be signed than I'll change Andriese and go from there.
