For those that don't check e-mail I received this from Cubit this morning:
Dear Bill,
I, too, am very sorry that my pick of Mookie Betts proved to have been illegal. I would have immediately repicked then had anyone noticed it. I certainly did not try to sneak it by anyone. Of course, he belongs to Turtle, but I think completely eliminating my pick is a little harsh. Perhaps some other kind of compensation would be appropriate if you feel it unfair to allow me a replacement pick now. Perhaps an extra pick next year or or something. I’ve been counting on him in my thinking since then.
Ted
Here was my response:
Ted,
I'm actually of two minds on this: first, our rules very clearly state that it is the responsibility of each manager to do their own homework regarding prospects, that includes making sure the guy you pick isn't on a roster already which to me is the easiest thing in the world to check. Second, I REPEATEDLY ask everyone to check rosters because I do make mistakes, and yet this slipped by both owners involved until recently.
That said, I have certainly tried to correct picks when managers make errors and in that spirit I will be granting you a supplemental prospect pick at the end of the spring prospect draft. You can not trade this pick, and you must make certain it is legit. I will not make this concession again if an incorrect pick goes unnoticed.
I will be forwarding this to the rest of the league and posting it on the chat thread.
