Joe, I always compare your ratings with how I think teams rank. Not so much to dispute the rankings but to see how other people look at things.

Last season I had actually started writing a response but then it got into the math part and I stopped. Maybe that's why I change careers from accounting to sales  I promise to write up my impressions this year even if it makes me look like a dumbass.

LOL

Hey Stoney, don't feel bad, I look like a dumbass every NLD! :P

Ok, first stats that I can provide without *too* much time. Here is teh amount each team has spent on the three categories. Now, I may have gotten a lineup (or two) wrong, but it's probably close.

Enjoy

Code: Select all
.......   Linup   Pit.   Bench
AT.....   53.9   20.4   5.8
Semper.   51.2   24.9   3.9
Big A..   50.2   26.8   3.0
Jeep...   49.8   22.2   8.0
Keyzick   48.3   26.2   5.5
GBrook.   47.3   27.1   5.6
Corky..   47.3   27.1   5.6
JTJ....   46.3   28.8   4.8
Big M..   46.2   27.6   6.3
Hawk...   44.2   27.0   8.8
Stoney.   43.5   32.0   4.4
DJ.....   41.1   31.6   7.3

Average   47.5   26.8   5.7

Some quick impressions:

- Teams didn't spend much on pitching.
- Jeep and Hawk have a lot of money on platoon players > 8 Mil.
- If money spent is an indicator, The East should score a lot of runs. the top three in $ spent are there
- DJ and Stoney have the best pitching (but that doesn't take into account fielding)
- Big A has no bench and Semper not much better

Remember this is just from looking at salary, not actual players.

Happy Friday everyone.

I spent my bench money on high character clubhouse players like Jim Thome. Jim gives me both a player and a solid bench coach. He's got wisdom like Don Zimmerman and you can't teach that skill.

Pitching? Overrated. :D

Me and GBrookes spent the same exact amount in all 3 categories, weird!

We do have a bench, it's made of hardwood.

Corky,

That *is* strange. I hadn't noticed. Thanks for pointing that out. It will be interesting to see how close your ratings and stats end up being.

I can't tell you how irritating this game is to me.......best run differential in the league yet the worst record. I swear I think sometimes these games aren't really determined by rolls of the dice.

Yeah Corky, Bernie just has it out for you! ;)

Actually, I can sympathize, having played this game FTF for 36 years, I can tell you that luck is a big part of it. The key to the game is *when* you get your breaks. Timing is everything.

Well, our lineup v LHP is still waiting to get going and we'll get to try it again v BIG M tomorrow night. (We get three of them)

So Far we have
A cabrera .172
Fielder .154
Willingham .125 (at least both hits have been HRs! :) )
Canzler .087 (and he's pretty darn good v LHP)
S. Robinson 0-17

I think these guys are at least a *little* bit better than that!

Hopefully we'll have a few rolls coming our way! 8-)

Well, looks like we got some rolls. Managed to get lucky enough to sweep Big M scoring 18 runs in t he process. Let's see how our subjects came out of the series:

Cabrera .237
Fielder 243
Willingham still 125, but got some walks and continued to have every hit v LHP be a HR!
Canzler 129 (a big improvement from .087!)
Robinson 160, went 4-8

I think the team BA v LHP jumped about 12 points.

Thanks for taking pity on me Big M!

DJ made some moves. DJ, want to add any insight to the why and wherefore of your moves?
