Guys I've explained this before, will do so again now - the inclusion of the stats became a parity issue due to when we draft. Many but not all owners were shelling out for SOM's stats, which gives you all the data. It comes out in mid-Jan. It was just too lopsided an advantage in our kind of league to have one set of owners with all the relevant stats and another set of owners with none, just because half the guys shelled out an extra $13. It would have wrecked the competitive balance of our draft for sure.

So we have 2 options:

1) Draft before SOM's stats come out. I am fine with this option, but it moves our draft up to the 1st week after New Year's.

2) Keep going the way we have and use the initial SOM stats.

I am fine moving the draft up if others are ok on the schedule. It means draft will formally begin Jan 4.

If we move that draft to that early replace me.

I've only been in the league a few years so I didn't realize that the lack of data for all was causing a parity issue. That answers my question of why the practice was started the past couple of years and didn't happen previously. Real MLB teams subscribe to such services so I guess there's no reason we shouldn't emulate them.

Sorry I've been MIA for this discussion, but I've been away and without consistent internet access. I'm in favor of some sort of controls, simply because I'm just not a huge fan of the Unleashed game. As for the second question, I think moving the draft up that far would be pretty foolish and I'm perfectly happy with the system we have right now. I like this league a lot, so I would generally trend towards keeping the status quo.

Damn, I didn't realize I was supposed to suck as a GM if I didn't have the files. I guess I'll have to start making poor draft choices and deals because I don't have any intention of buying them. Imagine, I've been doing without all these years and winning my fair share! I guess I'll stay truly "hard-core" :P  :P

Don't know what I'd do without a smartass or 2 on the crowd to keep me honest! :P

"Hard Core" just got a little easier, at least as far as reading the card images.

Call up a card for a player and you'll see what I mean, or read Garcia's latest blog post.

Meh. More lousy incremental light upgrading to existing stuff. Does not impact this league at all since we draft before the cards come out...

As one who buys the card ratings every year, I didn't realize that some of you didn't. But it really only matters if you're trying to make a competitive team better. Mostly, I just draft for long-term value, and knowing the card numbers just doesn't help me. I wouldn't dream, however, of playing one of the AD or live draft leagues without the numbers though.
