I'd like to propose a vote if we could on uncapping our number of prospects from 10 to either unlimited or a # we all agree upon. Not sure if guys were aware of that, I know you weren't the original commissioner, I only looked once I started gathering picks.
If not, I understand, just thought I'd throw it out there if it was something we could vote on or not.
Thanks!
Ernie
I think that might be something worth voting on as long as current prospect players listed on people's 40-man rosters (for whatever reason to this time) instead of in the prospect status category (minor league players off the 40-man rosters) remain on ther major league 40-man rosters. From here on out there would be no reason to promote a prospect without having been carded or of course having been retained past the two-year date (from initial drafting).
What I don't like about an uncapped number of prospects is the possible over-fixation on prospects on a given team. One must understand that prospects aren't solid Major leaguers....yet or perhaps never. Therefore, trading away of quality Major league talent for prospects is a risky endeavor at best. it can leave the Major league roster in shambles if too much talent is sold off for the future "promise" of a prospect that may/may not ever develop.
After thinking about I believe it would be best to vote on an increase in allowable prospects on each team but not to make it totally uncapped as that, in my estimation, would be dangerous to the integrity of the current playing season. We need to balance competitiveness for each season with Major leaguers (and you risk forfeiting that quality by selling off your major league stars for prospects that may in fact never pan out) and an eye out towards the future with our prospects. Therefore, I feel comfortable with adding something like perhaps a five prospect bump. But no more than that.
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this issue? Maybe I'm missing something....
