2 - 4 - 6 League :: Expansion Era

PostTue May 13, 2014 10:34 am

With 2 keeper leagues starting play last night and with the next draft not scheduled until June 1, perhaps it's time for a new experiment.

I've been wanting to learn more about the players in the All Time Greats' set, especially in the earlier eras -- and I've also never tried a 6-team league, so...

I suggest we try the 2 - 4 - 6 league!

* * * * *

2 franchises from the original 16 (1 NL, 1 AL)
4 seasons (db, pre, post, exp)
6 managers

Same 2 franchises in all 4 seasons
Random and serpentine draft of franchises -- great pick #1 offset by lousy pick #12
Use only players carded to your franchises*
-- if more than one card for a player in the current season, card with most games played wins (and if tied, then most AB or IP)
* Up to 3 ringers allowed, though, from players who are only carded to franchises NOT selected by managers
-- chosen via FA draft in ILC before the autodraft (not serpentine)
-- initial draft in reverse order of franchise selection; later ones in reverse order of previous season W/L records
$125 mil, no DH until exp season
Must use stadium of one of your franchises

* * * * *

I've begun gathering info about our options. See data at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0

So far, we have:

Looking for 3 more intrepid souls to join us on this journey...

OK - I'm your huckleberry on this one.

Can you 'splain the free agent draft scenario some more?

Sounds like you pick 6 down to 1 three times in a row? Am I reading that right?

Yes, typical keeper league setup. Draft in ILC thread (here) with 3 rounds of picks, beginning with whoever picked in the #6 spot in the franchise selection draft.

And welcome aboard!

OK - thanks.
Another question - NEL players. Are they ever allowed as a free agent?

Gotchya!

Curious - who's the sole "other" in the deadball column?

Is he eligible or not as a free agent? Must be decent although not a 10M+ player?

And.......excuse all the questions - but would you have a good example of the multi-carded player and how your pecking order of criteria would work?

The "Other" is Pud Galvin, who pitched for Buffalo in 1884 -- with 636 IP! He does not belong to one of the 16 century-old MLB franchises, but he is definitely available in the free agent draft.

An example of a multi-carded player would be Cy Young. He has 4 cards in the db set, including:
1899 with St. Louis for 44 games
1901 with Boston for 43 games
1903 with Boston for 40 games
1908 with Boston for 36 games

The St. Louis card has the most games played of any of them, so he belongs to St.Louis.

OK, so in these two examples or players.

Galvin is also a Pirate. How would he ever be available or eligible to the Pirates?

And Young - how would he ever be available or eligible to the Red Sox?

So Ruth would belong to Boston in DB?

They would not. For simplicity's sake, only the team for which a player has the most games (or most AB or IP, if tied in games) will be allowed to use him.

There are plenty of players available; just trying to make sure that each player is only available to a single team in this particular tournament.
