ATG8 Franchise Era 48 Team Tournament
Posted: Thu Oct 23, 2014 9:11 pm
Tournament Details:
This league is designed to break the massive ATGv8 card set into 48 competitive “franchise/era team groupings.” This is a 5 season commitment for all managers. Each season will be a $100 MIL cap which will require you to make some trade off choices for each team as you will probably not be able to fit all the top tier players available onto your $100 MIL roster.
The 48 teams will be randomized, and broken down into 4 groups of 12, to set up the 4 tournament seasons. We will then play the 4 seasons. At the end of each of the first 4 seasons, 3 teams will advance to the championship round which will be our 5th season.
The 2 teams that make the finals from each season will advance. The playoff team that fails to advance to the finals, but has the best record (using net run differential as a tie breaker) will also advance to the championship round season 5.
Team Selection/Rotation:
For season 1, the 12 managers will be randomized and each manager will select their team based on the order of the randomizer. For seasons 2, 3 and 4 the manager with the worst record (again using net run differential as a tie breaker) will get the first selection into the next season. The manager with second worst record will get the second pick and so on; however the manager who wins the finals will ¬always get last pick going into seasons 2, 3, and 4.
For the championship season, the team selection order will be based on the cumulative records of the 12 managers through seasons 1 – 4.
Season Rules:
$100 Million Salary Cap, DH, 5-10-20 drop penalty, ADV, and standard waivers for each season
Division assignments will be randomized
Eligible Home Field Parks are listed with each team roster grouping (note: I made some creative selections to help maintain competitive balance i.e. a team with stud pitching and no power will not be stuck in a homer dome)
Roster Eligibility Rules:
All 48 team groupings identify which team(s) in the player browser you can select from, minus a number of DO NOT DRAFT players who have been assigned to other team groupings for the purposes of competitive balance. I also provided some low price supplemental players to give teams some roster flexibility where needed. Most team groupings also have a list of supplemental players who are eligible for their associated roster.
At all times your roster must be comprised exclusively of players who are NOT on the DO NOT DRAFT list, and carded to your team grouping + any assigned supplemental players.
Key points regarding player/card eligibility:
1. If you have rights to a player, you have rights to all card versions of that player. For example, the pre-war Cubs have been assigned Rogers Hornsby. The Cubs can use 1929 Hornsby when he was carded to the Cubs, or the Cubs CAN use the 1922 or 1924 cards when Hornsby was a Cardinal. This rule also applies to the players that have both hitter and pitcher cards in the set. The deadball Red Sox can use Babe Ruth as a hitter OR pitcher, of course IMO he adds more value as a hitter to that team.
2. If a player is on your DO NOT DRAFT list, they can NEVER be drafted by you as that player has been designated for use on another team. It is highly likely that team will not be playing in the same season as your selected team, but we are going to run this tournament as if each player is eligible for 1 and only one team. For example, Eddie Collins has been assigned to the old time White Sox. Eddie Collins is on the DO NOT DRAFT list for the all-time Philadelphia A’s. Even if the all-time Philadelphia A’s and old time White Sox do not compete in the same season, the Philadelphia A’s can NEVER draft Eddie Collins.
3. As you know, the ATGv8 player set is huge. There is no way I can precisely account for all players with cards on more than one franchise. On the team eligibility lists, I compiled potential starters at every position with supplemental assignments where I felt a gap needed to be addressed. You are free to use that guide, and use any other combination of eligible players from your team grouping. That leaves numerous other players who have cards on multiple franchises, but are not on either the DO NOT DRAFT lists or supplemental assignment lists. If a player you want from your team grouping is not specifically listed on the DO NOT DRAFT list, but has cards with other franchises, you should put him at the top of your auto-draft list to make sure you get him. Each season we will run waivers to try to fairly assign players who are eligible for multiple teams, and are not specifically assigned to a franchise.
