Rules for the "Battle of the Top Real Managers League"

120 MIL
DH
5-10-20 drop
waivers
post WW2 player card set
home ball-park assigned on team list roster page
divisions will be randomized after teams load

12 season commitment; everyone gets assigned each team for one season

This theme league is based on the accomplishments of 12 of the most successful, modern era "real life" managers.

For each season, you will be assigned a real life manager/team(s)/time era. Which gives you exclusive auto-draft
rights to 20 "core" players who played for that manager/team in the designated era. For example, if you are assigned
Lou Piniella - Mariners, you have exclusive rights to 20 players, who played for Seattle from 1993 - 2002 (the time
window where Lou Piniella was the manager). So you get AROD, Suzuki, Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson etc. the team assignment lists are posted here:

Building your Roster/Roster Requirements:

At all times your roster must be comprised exclusively of "core" players who played for your assigned manager/team/time frame era + a MAXIMUM of 4 free agents. This means you can put 4 potential free agents on the top of your autodraft list, but the rest of your auto-draft list must be "core" players.

Free Agents must be expansion era cards, and players who played for your assigned team in real life.

For example, the Tommy Lasorda - Dodgers can use Nomar Garciaparra, as he is an expansion era player, and played for LA Dodgers. He is a free agent, not core player since his time with the Dodgers was after Tommy Lasorda retired. Other possible free agent assignments: Felix Hernandez, Gaylord Perry to the Mariners, Vlad Guerrero, Hoyt Wilhelm (exp era card), Brady Anderson to the Orioles, Jose Bautista, Roy Halladay to the Blue Jays, the Mets could take Jose Reyes, David Wright, Cleon Jones, the Reds could take Rob Dibble, Barry Larkin, the Braves could take Billy Wagner, Phil Niekro, ect...

Note: To comply with the SOM team roster requirement of 2 catchers; the Joe Torre Yankees will need to use one of their allocated 4 free agents to select a second catcher to go with J. Posada as the player set does not have any back up catchers from the Joe Torre era (Johnny Oates, and Joel Skinner would work as free agents).

All players must be expansion era players (unless identified exceptions noted on the eligible roster team pages - for example, Orioles can use the better Frank Robinson post war era cards)

On the team roster page, in addition to the 20 exclusive auto-draft players, I have provided a number of other players who are eligible core players as they played for the associated team/manager/era. You can use these potential core players, but you do not have exclusive auto draft rights to these players. So for example, Mookie Wilson would be an eligible core player for both the Mets and Blue Jays. Who ever wins him in the autodraft gets him. This list gives you the flexibility to edit your roster however you want with "core players" before accounting for your 4 free agent selections.

My advice to all managers is to put your 4 desired free agents and any potential core players you do not have auto draft rights to at the top of your AD list.

After the auto draft if HAL gives you an illegal replacement player for a player you did not successfully claim, please make sure to drop them as soon as waivers are run.

Card versions: If you have rights to a player you can use any expansion era card version of that player. So the Billy Martin Yankees, can use either the Dave Winfield SD card version or the Yankee version.

After the autodraft runs, any eligible core player, or free agent can be drafted. For example, if the Mariner's manager takes leave of his senses, and does not autodraft A-Rod, the Torre Yankees could pick him up as a "core player.."; the Billy Martin Yankees could pick him up as one of their 4 free agent selections. There are a large number of players who would be eligible core players for multiple teams (R. Alomar - Indians and Blue Jays; Gary Sheffield Braves, Yankees, Leyland Tigers) etc.. So make sure you protect your core players on the AD list.

You can do as many add/drops from the free agent pool as you desire as long as you never exceed the maximum of 4 free agents on the roster at one time. You can add/drop your free agents as long as you never exceed 4 free agents at any one time.

NOTE: Special Roster rules for the Jimmy Leland (Pirates, Tigers, Marlins). When you get this team your core players come from the team/era identified on the roster page. Your free agents can be any expansion era players who played for the Marlins, Tigers or Pirates.
