Further to this, while it doesn't impact the hitters, as I've understood it you should designate a backup closer if you don't want HAL to take the job himself. If your closer or other reliever pitches in consecutive games, he is said to be less effective in the third game.

Does anyone know if this is real, AND if it carries over from one series to the next day's games?
