REPOST OF RULES
2016 Alphabet League
Rules:
Basically you draft by letter, say 1st is A, then 2nd is B, and 3rd is C, etc etc, drafting a player whose LAST name starts with that letter. The draft goes in order of the Alphabet. Once a letter has run out of players, that letter is "empty" and we will skip that letter from then on. You can (and will) have multiple players with the same letter.
New Rule this time: We will have 26 Rounds. One extra for everyone to draft their park. At anytime during the draft you can draft your park. Drafting a Park is as follows: 'A' would be used to draft Turner Field. ('A' for Atlanta, not 'T' for Turner) All parks are selected like this based on city, not Park name. No duplicate Parks.
But you are not stuck with the same letter every time! We have 3 kinds of passes that let you skip to the next letter. There is a (1)Letter pass, where IF you have already drafted that letter previously, you can pass over to the next letter. You can at anytime reuse that letter as well. There is also a (2) Free pass, where you pass to the next letter whether or not you've already drafted the letter you are on. There is a (3) Letter empty pass, in which all players associated with that letter are gone. Each player gets 3 Free passes for the entire draft. Letter Passes are unlimited. Letter Empty Passes are unlimited of course. You can only use 1 of each pass per turn [i.e. most you could skip would be 2 letters per turn using 1 Free Pass and 1 Letter Pass]. You cannot use 2 Free Passes or 2 Letter Passes in the same turn. It is OK, however, to use 1 FP, 1 LP, and 1 (letter empty) in one turn. Note: Cities are used to draft Parks but do NOT count when declaring a letter as empty.
The draft is fun because with the cap, it makes for very interesting teams. Example draft: Player 1 - T: Trout; Player 2 - U: Utley; Player 3 - V: Free Pass, W: Wainwright.. and on and on
Also, as far as FAs goes, all trades/drops/adds must be letter for letter (i.e drop an A for an A, not B for C then C for B). All Owners must keep 25 players for the season in order to match the letters they drafted. You must draft an Autodraft-ready squad. Two cathers for instance. We'll do two randomizers: 1 for draft position, and 2 for which letter we start with. For example, Jeep wins first draft spot. A 1-25 randomizer will then put the letters in a random order. If '15' wins the 1-25 randomizer then Jeep starts with the 15th letter "O." The next Owner with 'P' and so on. It's 1-25 because there's no players with an 'X.'
Be mindful of the cap though. If you run out of cap space, and are forced to draft a player you can't afford, you will have to drop another player to make room for it. The rules used to state your most expensive player, but I find that too harsh and will deem it to be one of your top 5 players (in salary).

Gentlemen very important scenarios not covered in the Rules was brought to my attention:
What to do in case we're in the last round and someone has not picked their 2nd Catcher or Park yet. Or, if the 25th player needs to be a Pitcher, and the letter you're on doesn't have any Pitchers left. Or, vice versa of course.
In the case of 2nd Catcher or Park: Those who waited to the last moment to pick these two shouldn't be rewarded for it by letting them skip scot free to an available letter. They should be a penalty of some kind, IMO. Especially so for the Owners who had the foresight to pick them earlier in the draft. So here's my decision:
2nd C or Park: You can skip to the next letter (round 25 only) where an available player or Park-available City is. It must be the first letter that qualifies. The penalty will be losing a player whose salary is $3mil at minimum. You would replace him with a 50cent scrub of the same letter. If none at that letter exists, the next 50 cent scrub at the next available letter. No random picking of a letter.
Now, how to handle which letter the next Owner up in the draft will have should that scenario take place. He will be given his choice of the letter that the penalized Owner would have had, or he can take the next letter in sequence. For ex, Owner skipped ahead to "M" for Miami. He could take "N" if he chooses to.
This rule has been modified since the beginning of the draft: As far as needing a Pitcher or Hitter to make your roster compliant (e.g. 11 Pitchers/14 Hitters) and it's Round 24 or later, the Owner can skip ahead to take the next available w/o penalty. And the next Owner in this case would be up with the next letter in sequence. If it's Round 23 or earlier, then losing a $3mil player at minimum will be the penalty.
Keep in mind this is a pretty labor intensive Draft and you will have to check in frequently. With all the different letter possibilities proxies are possible, but limited in use than a normal draft. Whenever skipped, you will have to take that letter, no passes will be afforded you, whether you already used that letter or not. 3 hour T.L.s 10am-midnight EDT. 6 hour T.L. on weekends, no T.L. for first round. Each Owner gets One Mulligan. He won't be skipped for the first violation, but once that Mulligan is used all succeeding T.L. violations will be enforced.
