Franchise League with a Twist Draft Order and Rules

PostThu Jul 14, 2016 6:36 pm

Ok Fellas here we go I didn't want to wait anymore so I had my wife draw numbers out of my lunch box so you'll just have to trust me, of course trust is a foundation of this league so I'm hoping everyone is ok with that.

Rules

1) Choose an expansion team(ATG 8 post WW2 EXP Franchise only for example, EXP Mon, EXP Chi) 125mil with DH CAP.
2) Populate your roster with players that played for that franchise. I.e. Omar Vizquel played for Cleveland, Seattle, SFG, White Sox, Texas and Toronto making him eligible to be drafted by ANY of these franchises. Baseball Reference will be used to verify any disputes.
3) Your initial draft list must contain ONLY PLAYERS THAT PLAYED ON YOUR FRANCHISE. After the draft if you have any players that do not belong on your roster you will be expected to drop them and replace with available legal FA players. Exception: The replacement player from the draft is a player you want to keep on your roster, you will then designate that player as your FA keeper.
4) You may select any stadium from the ATG 8 post WW2 set as long as your team played in that stadium.
5) After free agency starts here is where the twist comes in. You may select 1 FA Pitcher and 1 FA Hitter from all the available FA. The selection is a first come first grabbed process, which means you may also pick this player up during the waivers period. This player does not have to be from your franchise they can be from any team in the EXP set. You may drop and add players until the season starts. I.e. you can select Vizquel as your FA, decide before the season starts he doesn’t fit with what you want to do, so you drop him and select someone else. After the season starts the Pitcher and Hitter you finally decide upon MUST REMAIN on your team for the entire season they cannot be dropped/replaced or traded so choose wisely. Before the season starts you will be expected to declare publicly your FA pitcher/hitter. If a FA, not from your legal list of players, is on your roster and you do not declare them it is assumed they are your FA and will remain on your roster until the end of the season. You do not have to start the season with a designated FA you may pick one up after the season starts.
6) This will be a league based on the honor system. I feel this will be a fun league so let’s have at it. If there are any kinks in the league we will try and iron them out during the FA waiting period.
7) NEL players are ineligible for selection.
8) Trades are allowed as long as the end results leave both teams legal.
9) Only player cards available are from 1967 on.

As a history lesson for any new members we have run this league twice (maybe more often but I have been in twice recently) and the results were:

Dodgers - won, lost in finals
Giants - won, lost in playoffs
Cards - lost in finals
Mets, Rangers, Yankees - lost in playoffs

A different mix of teams each year which totally changes the makeup of the teams. One year included Angles, Mariners, Indians & Expos. 2nd year those teams were gone and replaced with Padres, Blue Jays, Cubs, and Phillies. So the Phillies (my team) in year 2 sucked but could have had success in year 1 or in a different division in year 2.

Don't want to give away any secret players (like a player playing 20 games one year for a team that everyone forgot about so that team owner can sneak in and get him) but just a couple of well known player examples. The Pirates were not chosen either year so Giants got Bonds both times which helped them. The Rangers had ARod in year 1 but year 2 the Rangers and Mariners were out so the Yankees got ARod without competition. I guess going last has one advantage. So no one pick the Giants or Pirates so I can get Bonds for free.

Hopefully everyone is ready for a few seasons of this and gets to try to win with different teams.
