Dual Franchise League Season 32

This is the 32th season of the dual franchise league. We will be using the new ATG9 cards recently released; within those cards are a subset that Stratomatic created at BDWards request entitled Post WWII . The set can be found when you create a team and there is an option just under the ATG9 set. Salary cap is 140 million, 5% DROP; we WILL be using a designated hitter, no waivers. You MUST have a players card on one of your franchises in order to use him on your roster, unless you acquire a player via trade.

Each manager must pick 1 team from each column below. . A manager has exclusive rights to players on his roster; if a player is on more than one roster, he belongs to the team where his salary is highest. We are using a serpentine draft, so each manager picks one team first and then we reverse the order. List of teams will be posted below. Please sign up using the cut and paste method. Official draft order will follow. Both the Astros and Expos will be listed as Original franchises and the Orioles and Whitesox will be Listed under the expansion side.
Each team will be allowed ONE Trade only. (Multi player deals will be allowed). However ALL trades must occur after your team has been created. This will allow all of us to follow the various trades. You can agree to a trade while the draft is still going on, but you must draft the player you have rights to and then trade him after the team rosters are created by Strat.

Let me repeat that again because managers have ignored this rule in the past. ALL TRADES MUST BE MADE AFTER STRAT HAS CREATED THE LEAGUE; YOU MUST DRAFT AND THEN TRADE A PLAYER EVEN IF YOU AGREED TO A TRADE WHILE OUR DRAFT IS STILL RUNNING.

In addition this Season we will have assigned divisions, so the bottom 4 teams drafting will load first ( because they will have completed draft first).

I will post draft order and teams below.

There were 2 ties this season and I used head to head , however in both cases they split 6-6; as I have done in the past I used overall run differential for the entire season.

Dave, please note that the Expansion Senators/Rangers started in 1961, not 1962, and that the original Senators played in Washington D.C. until 1960, and after the 1960 season moved to Minnesota and became the Twins in 1961, not 1962. However, Twins players from 1961 to 1966 continue to be grouped with the Post WWII Senators. Based upon that, the list should be as follows:

POST -----------------EXPANSION

Dodgers-----------Angels

YANKEES---------Mets

Red Sox------------Whitesox

Giants --------------Royals

Cubs----------------Orioles

Expos/Ntls--------Mariners

Pirates-----------Toronto

Phillies-----------Padres

Tigers------------Rockies

Indians----------Senators (1961 and later)/Rangers

Cardinals--------Dbacks/Tampa

Braves-----------Senators (1960 and prior)/Twins

Reds-----------Athletics

Astros---------Brewers

-----------------Marlins

I struggle interpreting this, maybe (?). Are the players impacted Kralick, Pedro Ramos, and '61 Killer?

Steve, I'm surprised at your alleged struggle, as the same revision was made last league and you didn't question it then.

Since it's unclear where you are confused, it's hard to give a short answer to your question. I suggest that you brush up on your baseball history regarding the Senators/Twins and the expansion Senators/Rangers and that you review the SOM card groupings for those teams. The franchise pages on Baseball-Reference.com would be an excellent starting point. That should clear up any confusion.

But to put it more simply, the SOM Post WWII Senators grouping includes players who played for the Senators from 1947-1960 and players who played for the Twins from 1961-1966, as the Senators moved to Minnesota and became the Twins for the 1961 baseball season.

Baseball officials felt that our Nation's Capitol should have a baseball team, so the expansion Senators were created in 1961 to play in Washington D.C. to replace the original Senators, who had moved to Minnesota. The expansion Senators moved to Texas in 1972 and became the Rangers. So any player who played for the expansion Senators starting in 1961 is grouped by SOM with the Rangers franchise. Believe it or not, while there is not a Rangers Post WWII team listed in the drop down free agent team search menu, 1963 Steve Hamilton and 1966 Bob Humphries, who played for the expansion Senators, are categorized by SOM as Texas Post WWII.

I hope this helps.

Sorry to surprise you, Bernie. I'm familiar with the history of the Washington Senators franchises and how they transitioned between 1960 and 1961.

I was trying (and struggling) to figure out how to easily look at lists of eligible players with the web SOM365 GUI franchise player lists and the downloaded ATG9 spreadsheet.

The spreadsheet works as expected by filtering on Years and Franchises. That was no struggle.

The web SOM365 GUI took me more than a few minutes to sort out. The Minnesota Twins (Min-exp) / legacy Washington Senators franchise combination equals three franchise player lists; Min-exp, Was-pre ('46 Mickey Vernon), and Was-Post. The Texas Rangers (Tex-exp) / 'new' Washington Senators franchise combination equals two franchise player lists; Tex-exp and Tex-post. Tex-post does not appear in the dropdown menu and only two players are listed for it (as you note, 1963 Steve Hamilton and 1966 Bob Humphries). For the Texas franchise combination, Was only appears on a few player card images. There is no Was franchise player list with Texas franchise players on it in the web GUI.

Subsequently, displaying player lists with the web GUI was less obvious to me compared to the downloaded ATG9 spreadsheet. In the previous seasons' drafts, I was looking at players in the Was-post player list and noting the year thinking that player is Minnesota's and that player is Texas'. Actually, they were all Minnesota's.

I think I have it, now.
