Most of you who have followed my last team in a keeper league...THE BALITIMORE BLACK KNIGHTS in Those were the Days League know sometime i tend to write about them but over the last 12 months things were not the same with everything goin on in the world but hopefully with new vaccines on the market things will get better. 24 brave souls have signed up for a 17 yr journey in The Glory Days League with Sunday night being the league's opening night.Good luck to all the former managers who have come back and to the new mangers welcome aboard.
For this go around i have chosen for the teams name one of the greatest disappointments in CANADIAN Aviation history the '" Arrow CF-105". The Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow (the Arrow) was a supersonic interceptor jet aircraft designed and built in the 1950s by A.V. Roe Canada (Avro). The Arrow was one of the most advanced aircraft of its era, helping to establish Canada as a world leader in scientific research and development.Though the Arrow was widely praised for its power and beauty, the program was cancelled in February 1959 by the government of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. This resulted in the loss of at least 25,000 direct and indirect jobs.Many believe that the Arrow’s cancellation was a betrayal of Canada’s aerospace industry. Others assert that the jet was extravagant and had little chance of competing with impending innovations. At best, Avro and the Arrow were historic examples of Canadian ingenuity and intriguing case studies of unrealized potential.

History was made in Beach Grove as Derek Lowe(1-0)with relief help tossed a no-hitter and the Beach Grove Broken Arrow's defeated the Lac Qui Parle Pink Paddlers by the score of 3 to 0.

Beach Grove jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring one runner. The early run support proved sufficient for Lowe and Beach Grove. That was all the run support Lowe required. Beach Grove rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

Jon Rauch recorded his 2nd save. Clay Hensley(1-1) was charged with the loss. 'I gave it everything I had. It's probably the greatest day of my life,' Lowe said. 'I was out there focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching my game.

Pork "CHOPS" Murphy was not happy this morning addressing the media as the Broken Arrow's find themselves (23-22) 3 games out of 1st in the West division of the Glory Day's League. The team did make 1 trade in the 1st quater sending back up catcher JEFF MATHIS and a 3rd round pick in 2008 for veteran catcher A.J. PIERZYNSKI to the Long Beach Dirt Bags." Our pitching got off to a tough start and we re working on getting them better prepared," Murphy said, "Hitting (.270) top 5 in the league and OBP(.351) top 3 and the team seems to be scoring enough runs(#2 RS...254) so it has to about getting better efforts from our pitchers. ""We will be making a few changes to our bull pen in the 2nd quater and see where the team is at the half-way point in 2007.

After a 23-22 start the Arrow's are 26-13 over the last 39 with a solid .267 BA and a .345 OBP. The biggest improvement has been the pitching staffs turnaround after a few teaks were made and Murphy say they will have to stay on top of their game in the second half if they are to keep pace with the 12 AM Moon Maniacs. If our calculations are right 93 wins looks like a play-off birth and the that seems to be the pace the team is on its not going to be easy. After a horrible start the team era's has dropped from the high 4's to a respectable 3.92 with a 1.29 whip in the 24 team league.

Top pitcher so far has to be the middle relief pitching of Juan Cruz (6-0,3.22) with top hitting to ALL Star Matt Holliday (.335/16/50/.425OBP.). SP Derek Lowe leads the team with 9 wins while CL BRIAN FUENTES (1-2/2.16/14 sav/0.84 whip) after given the closing role after 20 games. C A.J. PIERZYNSKI (.308/7/23) seems to like his new home and has many observers convinced the he had a lot to do with the turnaround in the pitchers performances over the last 39 games. With the trade dead line approaching the Arrow's will be looking to add a player or 2 and have dispatched their scouts to follow a few players. As always our trade lines are always open and willing to entertain any offers.

The team has been playing well (67-41) in 1st place by 8 games in the West. After a slow start (23-22) the pitching has improved and the hitting has been solid. The Arrow's have made a couple of trades before the trade dead-line, "We have been following a couple of players for the last couple of weeks and today we have completed what we think makes us stronger," GM Pork "CHOPS" Murphy told reporters before tonights games against Long Beach Dirt Bags. In the first trade the Arrows acquired 3B Melvin Mora from the Lac Qui Parle Pink Paddlers for a future draft pick and back-up 3B MORGAN ENSBERG. Mora(.333/3/9/.419 OBP ) has fitted in nicely with 3B Ryan Zimmerman at the hot corner for the team. Today Management added CL Heath Bell from the Y Botha and an 8th round draft pick(2009) for CL Jesus Colome and a 3rd round pick(2009)." Bell is good and should be on the team for at least the next 3 years and with an R2 rating will help take the pressure off middle reliever Justin Hampson who has logged almost 100 innings this season.

Congrates to DH Jack Cust who hit 3 homeruns in a victory the other night while CF WILLY TAVERAS (.314/2/34/.354 OBP) is closing in on 50 SB for the team from the leadoff spot. SP Lowe recorded his 13th win against 6 losses to lead the team while Captain MATT HOLLIDAY (.333/21/74/.423 OBP) heads up the hitters. Cust leads the team with 28 HR's with 54 games to go in this the 1st season of the Glory Days league.

THE FINAL 36 Games

Season #1 is winding down and the Arrow's find themselves in 1st place(81-45) holding a 10 game lead over 2nd place 12 AM Moon Maniacs (71-55)."It took us awhile to get going ," GM Pork "CHOPS" Murphy told reporters after the teams 3 game sweep of Lac Qui Parle Pink Paddlers at Coors Field last night,"Now if we can just keep every-one healthy over the home stretch we should be in good shape." Leading HR hitter Jack Cust returns tonight after a 15 game stint on the DL but Canadian veteran Matt Stairs (.289/14/42/.364 OBP) has filled in and gotten hot at the right time for the Arrows blasting 3 HR's in his last 14 AB's as the teams DH. SP Derek Lowe continues to lead the pitching staff with 15 wins while All-Star Matt Holliday(.346/26/93/.439 OBP) tops all hitters. CF Willy Travas (.313/2/38/.357 OBP) collected his 59th SB and could reach 75 this season while the addition of veteran Melvin Mora ( .345/3/18/.402 OBP) in 32 games has worked out well.

Season # 1 is over and the Broken Arrow's climbed their way to the West Division Title with a 96-66 record 7 games up on 2 teams ,Carolina Ospreys and the 12 AM Moon Maniacs. Great way to start the 2007-2024 league Glory Days replay and will face Midnight Steel Swingers (90-72) in a best of 5 quater-finals. Both teams played each other 6 times with the Arrow's prevailing 5-1,"Don't mean nuthin," Pork "Chops" Murphy told reporters as the team left the field after a light work out before tonights game against the Steel Swingers, Murphy also name SP Derek Lowe( 18-11,3.75) as Game #1 starting pitcher followed by SP Johan Santana (14-11,4.31) in game 2.
The Beach Grove Broken Arrow's held their Player of the Year awards last night and the following trophies were handed out to team with a family only Banquet where fresh PEI Lobsters and Mussels were the order of the day.

The Arrows were just a .500 team (13-12)before obtaining the catcher and with AJ behind the plate went on to finish the season 83-52 31 games above .500

The Quarter-Finals are over and the Broken Arrow's are on their way to the Semi's in 2007 to play the Nebraska Mandalorians (98-64) lead by Manager Joe Bench. Derek Lowe(1-1) and Justin Verlander(1-1) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with Lowe and the Beach Grove Broken Arrow's coming out on top of the Midnight Steel Swingers 2 to 1.Beach Grove tallied 2 runs in the 3rd inning. That was all the run support Lowe required, Midnight Steel Swingers had just 3 hits for the afternoon. Lowe got help from Brian Fuentes who earned his 1st save. There standing room only as 46,340 fans watch Lowe dominate the Swingers, "Felt good out there today everything was loose, A.J.( Pierzynski) called a hell of game." Pork "CHOPS" Murphy was all smiles as finally the home team won a game in this series with the road team winning the previous four. " No time to celebrate as the one of the best teams in the Glory Days League (#2 overall) and its $118.9 million dollar payroll against a 90 million payroll for the Arrow's.. The teams played each other 6 times splitting the series with 3 wins each.
