Backup Catcher as DH Frustration

PostSat Apr 12, 2014 10:51 am

Is it really that hard to program this game so when my #1 catcher goes down with an injury, my #2 catcher who is slotted in the DH spot comes in to play, instead of the backup 2B?

I mean, that can't be THAT HARD right? To write two lines of code that over-ride everything when the lead catcher gets injured? I frankly think I could do it myself. Will you contact me so we can work this out?

As I'm sure you know, if your DH comes into play a position, you lose the DH position the rest of the game and the pitcher must bat. I agree that's preferable to having a non-catcher play the position, and it would be nice if the game accommodated this situation. However, it might take more than a couple of lines of code.

I don't mean during the game (though that'd be nice, too), I mean when you set your daily lineup, if the guy's slotted in as DH, he doesn't move to the Catcher position.

Although, for the first time, I see it did happen last night. So maybe it got fixed. If so: Thank you!

If the main concern is making sure the catcher is a true catcher (e.g. Blanchard) at the start of the game following the injury to the main catcher (e.g., Howard) in the previous game, then, it seems the solution as designed by Strat o matic is to simply specify in the "backup >" interface of the daily lineup that you always want Blanchard to backup Howard.

But, if the DH bats cleanup and the catcher bats ninth and the DH still points to Blanchard in the daily lineup when Howard is injured in the previous game, then, maybe, Strat doesn't recognize that the catcher assignment has priority over DH assignment unless the catcher bats higher than the DH in the batting order. I am not sure how that is handled.

Anyway, the manager should never leave the "backup >" interface blank for a particular position if there is concern about who HAL might insert into the lineup for the next game following an injury.
