Live draft PRE-draft planning

PostFri Apr 11, 2014 2:54 pm

Correct me if this functionality already exists -- I can't seem to find it -- but it would be VERY helpful if, once you've joined a league w/ live draft, you could arrange a pre-draft lineup akin to the auto-draft lineup, i.e. assembling the requisite pitching/batting lineups under the constraints of the salary cap.

That would allow EVERYBODY to be fully prepared when the live draft begins, rather than crunching in 30 mins to assemble a working draft template -- which will, inevitably, get derailed by other teams' picks, but I'd rather have some idea of what I'm doing before I'm doing it.

Thanks

I make a list on paper, with at least one contingency pick for each player

Exactly...make a list of all 25 positions on a notepad. Then before the draft starts, add all the players you want to draft into your queu. You can then drag the players up or down in the queue in your order of preference. That will help you in case you run out of time.

Yeah, I've done just that, but it seems like a pretty janky way to engage an online game. It doesn't seem like a lot to ask that in the days or hours leading up to a live draft you could use something akin the pre-auto draft lineup to arrange your picks, which would also make it easier for those absent from the live draft -- for whatever reason -- to make some picks.

Well, I suppose they could let you load up your queue in advance.

You can do on-line pre draft planning for fantasy baseball you should be able to do it here for live drafts. After the league fills, let managers have a queue right away as opposed to having to wait until 30 minutes before the draft.

I go in the draft room 1/2 hour before the draft and put all the players I want in my queue. JMO, it is a waste of time to spend any more time than that on a Live Draft. Just take the best player available when it's your turn with the priority of filling your starting lineup and rotation first.

This was live draft procedure under the Sporting News Application.

I agree with redrum that the 30 minutes prior to the draft is more then enough time for experienced live draft managers to prepare a queue of players acceptable to be drafted.

I ALWAYS prepare a queue myself, that is not at all the point. The point is you can only do it 30 minutes before the draft and chances are, if something comes up causing you to miss the draft you will not be there 30 minutes before the draft. WHY CAN'T YOU SET UP YOUR QUEUE AS SOON AS THE LEAGUE IS SET???? Doesn't make sense to me...
