per-game lineups

PostSat Aug 10, 2013 10:39 pm

It would be nice to be able to enter per-game lineups. I doubt I'd use them much. But when a key player is injured for only the first game of an important series, for example, then I would probably use them.

I agree with this--I don't like Hal re-ordering my whole line-up, usually for the worse, when a player is injured--each sub should have a 1-9 (or 1-8 with no-DH) slot you want him to be inserted into, with every one moved up one slot to fill.

Remember way back when TSN still ran things. This very thing was on the table and supposedly in the works and was almost a certainty following the transition because the new programming environment would be so much easier and faster to develop in.

This is something the community has been asking for for years......

Bumping this thread to keep it on the radar - a nice option to have.

i agree, made this suggestion back in the SN days. I would like the flexibility to adjust my lineup, especially when a RHP with something like a 3L is starting

I know a lot of people have asked for this, and I suspect (unlike with many suggestions) the majority probably want it. I even suspect we will get it someday. However, I won't be celebrating when it happens.

While I agree it could be useful for those situations where you have an injury, I also see the potential for last-minute shenanigans. Using jayhawk's example, I set game 1 to account for that 3L righty I'm facing. So, at 7:58 pm, the manager swaps out his 3L pitcher for a 4R pitcher and starts the 3L pitcher in game 2 instead.

I completely agree about the starting pitcher shenanigans; I've been zinged a few times by that myself. However, we never know our opponent's lineups anyway before a game. So, I'm not exactly sure how a manager could pull "lineup shenanigans" on his opponent with per-game lineups.

I find it challenging to put a lineup out there that is the best lineup for a three-game series, rather than a single game. I understand it's more realistic to have a per-game lineup that can be tweaked for each game, but, I'm okay with not being able to manage a per-game lineup.

Now, if you get to the finals and find that you play one or two games per night, that's also interesting. Start Gary Nolan in game 7 of the finals, but, pull him at 9:58 p.m for Nino Espinosa. Warning: Your opponent might not bat a reverse lineup because he is too lazy to change it from the previous day, so, do not try this strategy against lazy managers. :D
