Great suggestion RB! A post war mystery game circa approx. 1945-1959 would be very interesting and provide a few more players than even the 60s game. This would be great!!!

Add a 50's set and combine all the mystery into one. Mega Mystery Series. Each set could also be played separately.
Theme leagues galore.

This is a funny statement. What is the most popular online SOM game? ATG by far. Having seen a player play has no bearing on if the game will be popular or not.

Would love a 50s mystery game...
and LOVE the idea of possibly combining all the mystery games and picking sets.....if that's code-able (word?) then that would be great for keeper purposes and tons of different options in theme leagues.

:D :D

Paul, I created a player list for the 50s and the player pool wasn't large enough. I then did a 1946-59 player set (thinking maybe a post war game) and the pool of players was still about 100 shy of what we currently have in the 60s game. We would likely need a 1940-59 set to have an appropriate number of players which is what I'm working on now. They could call it the War Years set (WW2 and Korea) or the Greatest Generation League or something like that. SOM might not be ready for it but I'll be ready should they come calling.

There were only 16 MLB teams prior to 1961. They went up to 18 teams in 1961 and 20 by 1969 so there were more teams to pull players from for the 60s.

I just finished going through all 16 team rosters from 1942-1957 and looking at each individual player and compiled a set of players totaling 728. This compares to the size of the 70's game player pool of 720 players.

The criteria I used was that each player must have a minimum of 5 viable seasons and at least 3 of those must be between 1940-1959. What I considered viable generally meant at least 100 AB for hitters, about 20 games pitched for RP or 100 IP for SP.

The player pool had some superstars like Mays, Kaline, Aaron, Banks, Campanella, Joe Dimaggio, Ralph Kiner, Mickey Mantle, Johnny Mize, Stan Musial, Jackie Robinson, Frank Robinson, Duke Snider & Ted Williams. The group had other excellent players such as Yogi Berra, Ken Boyer, Clemente, Larry Doby, Eddie Mathews, Johnny Pesky, Phil Rizzuto & Enos Slaughter to name a few. There are also some fading stars in their final years like Jimmy Foxx, Bill Dickey, Hank Greenberg, Al Lopez, Mel Ott, and Paul & Lloyd Waner. These are just some of the hitters. I have not even talked about the pitchers.

There are some fun names in the player set as well such as: Coaker Triplett, Frenchy Bordagaray, Hoot Evers, Debs Garms, Solly Hemus, Pinky Higgins, Myril Hoag, Dario Lodigiani, Peanuts Lowrey, Pinky May, Skeeter Newsome, Dusty Rhodes (not the wrestler), Goody Rosen, Snuffy Stirnweiss, Birdie Tebbetts, Gee Walker, Taffy Wright, Skeeter Webb, Boom Boom Beck, Spud Chandler, Orval Grove, Vinegar Bend Mizell, Bobo Newsom, Stubby Overmire, Tot Pressnell, Schoolboy Rowe, Spec Shea and Dizzy Trout.

If this 40s/50s mystery game sounds good to you send a message to SOM asking for it. The more requests they get the more they will consider giving it to us.

This is my favorite era also - the post war era.

Would anyone want to ramrod a POST=only 12 team league. According to strat, this is the years 1947 through 1966. 1946 cards are PRE while 1967 cards are EXP. Maybe two (or four might be better) rounds of a random snake draft on the boards here - each team selecting a couple of top-notch hitters and pitchers (not a whole lot of those - but it would be relative for all) and then finish it up with an autodraft?
