PLEASE fix the stupid thing where HAL switches 2 outfielders with each other!!

I've been playing online since 2007 and have played every set except the mystery cards -- this happens in EVERY set: for no reason at all, without being "asked," in mid-game HAL will switch your starting LF with your starting RF, or CF with a corner OF.

IF I WANTED THEM THERE I WOULD HAVE PUT THEM THERE!

It is unbelievable that this bug remains from year to year. I hate it.

I don't disagree with the OP; however, I think I understand it.

When a player gets injured, HAL uses logic that let's him look at a defense as a whole. This is usually a good thing. You can check the forums for some epic fails, but usually the logic works well.

For example, if your shortstop gets hurt, HAL won't blindly put in your only replacement on the bench, a SS-4 e88. He checks to see if he can slide people around to give you a better result. The byproduct of this, is he will also shift unrelated outfielders to "better" positions, even if the players are not directly or indirectly affected by the injury.

I'd like to see this fixed, but it might be a bit of a challenge to separate this behavior from the overall logic.

coyote303, you're misunderstanding.

This has NOTHING to do with injuries. This is Defensive substitutions where the game will say, swap your LF and RF in the 8th inning, with nothing else happening (no injury, no pinch runner, no pinch hit).

I'm in 100% agreement with ClowntimeIsOver. If I wanted my OF's switched, I would put them there to begin with. It's annoying as hell and NO reason for it.

"The second change made is that outfielders who are already in the game will not randomly swap with each other. Previously this was a bug where you could occasionally see the left-fielder and right-fielder randomly swap positions in the middle of the game. This will no longer happen. Both of these changes have been vigorously tested and will be implemented for tonight's games."

Wow!

My bad. Regardless, I'm glad they got this fixed.

They haven't fixed this -- I've seen it happen at least twice recently

This has NOT been fixed, at least not in the sixties. Almost every time a sub comes in, whether a defensive sub or a double switch with the pitcher, HAL wears out Maris and Reggie Jackson on a hike to the other's field. I saw it happen 3 times in one game. I have no defensive subs set, so what's up?

Not only is this annoying, it and other silly things happening in the replay sometimes make me doubt the entire game engine. Especially in the dark moments after I have been sweep in two leagues on the same night. :x

The big issue is "primary positions". When you have 2 OF's in your lineup whose primary position (first position listed on the card) is the same (RF in your example) then WHENEVER any substitution is made, HAL puts the guy with the most PA's in that position and moves the other one. This is particularly annoying with Zach Wheat, whose primary position is LF where he is a 4 and we would like to use him in RF as a 2.

Thanks for the info rburgh, I suspected it might have something to do with playing out of their primary positions. It is interesting that number of PA's has something to do with it. Might somehow be useful info in mystery to determine card year. Don't know exactly how, but maybe...
