CD Rom Question....

I am fairly new to the online baseball games and would like to know if there were cd rom formats to buy similar to the online leagues that Strat-o-matic offers? I see there are recent years to purchase but do not see 60's, 70's, 80's etc cd roms for sale. Thought I saw the last few years, ( seasons), that can be purchased and that was it. I am not much of a tech guy and was wondering if I purchsed this cd rom if it was difficult to set up or download. Do you need an internet connection also? Thanks.

You do need an Internet connection just initially to set up the game on your computer, though there might even be a way you can do it without the Internet connection. Once the game is set up you do NOT need an Internet connection to play the game with a friend (in person) or versus the computer.

Once you own the CD-ROM, or game download, you can purchase complete past seasons, everything from the 1800s to present day. Each season has virtually every player who played that season. You can replay one team for an entire season letting the computer manage the rest of the league or you can manage the whole league. You can do a draft league, though this takes a little figuring out how to do it. You can make trades or adjustments, you can mix players from different years. Each season you wish to purchase costs about 23 bucks give or take...The initial game comes with the most recent season available.

Thanks Radagast for the info. I was asking because I dont have a internet connection at home but have to go to a public library or a free wifi place to conect which I dont want to do all the time. If i dont need an internet connection then I wanted to buy a number of seasons. You said there was a possibility I would have to download something from this cd rom disk initially and after that I wouldnt need a internet connection? Thanks again for your help.

If you buy a CD-ROM (which costs an extra $10 over the cost to simply download the game), it's possible to load SOM onto as many computers as you want. HOWEVER, the game will not run until you activate it, and you can only activate it on ONE computer at a time.

An Internet connection is needed to activate the game and any extra seasons you purchase, and you only have to do it once (for each item). So, if you only plan to play SOM on one computer, you can activate it once and forget it, never needing another Internet connection. Actually, that isn't quite true. If you decide later to purchase more seasons, you will need an Internet connection to activate your new purchases.

There used to be a way to activate the game (or seasons) without an Internet connection and there may still be. However, it involved contacting the company.
