How about treating playoffs like the playoffs. Second or third inning and the starter just let up five or six runs and got pulled. No pitcher listed as the mopup role, so how about putting in a better pitcher than the worst on your staff to keep you in the game for a while, like real life.

I see your point, but can't you simply create a mop-up role with a pitcher that you want to come into the game in that circumstance?

I don't think you could put a starter in that role. they should allow a playoff 4 man rotation, with all sp's eligible. also sp only's should be usuable in bullpen roles.

last nights games produced another in the list of "never happens". opponents 2.5 mil r2 reliever goes 7 innings in a deep extra inning game, finally allowing a run after 118 pitches. ok, I've seen that before in strat. then he comes right back in and faces 7 batters the next game, only going to 7 fatigue on the 6th. there is NO scenario in baseball where a pitcher would pitch the next game after throwing 118 (short of rain delays). he should have been on 0 fatigue right from the start. and he got the win in the game to boot. boo

tonight was maybe the most unrealistic thing hal has ever pulled. my opponents starter is injured early, so when we go extras his bullpen is pushed to the limit. in the 10th hal puts in scott kazmir, a non reliever. not a 1st, but kazmir just pitched 6 1/3 in the prior game. why not any other starter but him? so he goes 8 innings at 0 strength, allowing only 1 run for the win. of course my long reliever, having started 3 games ago, couldn't possibly come in when my lefty specialist was run down to 0. a mlb team would NEVER pitch a starter innings like that on 2 consecutive days. they'd pitch the backup catcher 1st, which hal should do if he has no other options.

What I want is to be able to pull a Davey Johnson. Bring Orosco in to face a lefty, then Bring Mcdowell in to face a righty, but move Orosco to RF. Then just flip them back and forth depending on the batter

that was pretty sweet back in the day. roger McDowell was not your average rp, in more ways than one. I remember a game where they had to play the rp in the field for multiple innings after a position player had to come in and finish up. heck, hal would play a catcher in cf without hesitation if he had too.

Whitey Herzog did this in Game 6 of the 1987 NL Playoff Games, when the Cardinals faced the Giants.

With one out in the top of the 9th, Todd Worrell was moved to RF so that the lefty Ken Dayley could be brought in to pitch. Dayley ended up finishing the game with Worrell in RF.
