Improved Base Running Control

I would like to see better base running control based on the base being run to and the number of outs

Running 2nd to 3rd 3rd to home
0 Outs 70% 75%
1 Outs 60% 80%
2 Outs 85% 50%

Stealing 2nd 3rd Home
0 Outs 80% 90% 95%
1 Out 70% 80% 95%
2 Outs 70% 95% 95%

The tables below would say if there are two outs an I have the opportunity to got from 2nd to 3rd (in order to go from 1st to 3rd on a single) I would only want to try it if I have a 70% chance of being safe.

The stealing table is similar, I would only want to try to steal 3rd with 2 out if I have a 95% chance of being safe.

I would like to see different options on Stealing that address whether 2nd is being stolen, compared to the tougher steals of 3rd or even home.

I treat what we have now as similar to an interview with your stock broker. Just as your financial planner tries to determine the amount of RISK you are willing to incur with your investments, so HAL asks us, "How much risk are you willing to take in baserunning/stealing?" With risk, there is reward, but also the chance of failure. With a conservative approach, you won't fail as much, but you won't enjoy the reward of risking more.

But Stealing bases other than 2nd does need correcting. All stealing is not created equal.

This is a topic that drives me nuts. All steals and baserunning are definitely not created equal!

I'd also like to see the situation play a part. I've thought about tracking the number of times late in a game a guy gets thrown out either attempting a steal or trying to reach the next bag, as it seems out of control. Every time it happens I imagine the complete horror that would spread throughout the dugout and the reception that player would get as they tried to avoid the coach as they sulked back to the bench.

These situations just wouldn't happen 99.9% of the time...and my guess is HAL has about a 70% real baseball strategy accuracy rating. Not bad for a guy that never played, but for a simulator that overall works very well this piece should be addressed.

I don't know why SOM can't implement the same running controls they have in the CD-Rom version of the game--The super HAL baserunning options solves all the above complaints and suggestions.

woo, hal is reaching new levels of ???? this season. I have only 2 decent base thieves, an A and a AA. they are both set to steal more. in 1 series I faced a poor throwing catcher and poor holding starters, so I set the team to very aggressive. my guys got on base in steal situations 10-12 times during the series, and didn't attempt a single steal.
in a game yesterday, with the team set back to normal, my AA failed to steal twice after leading off on 1st. then, down 2-1 in the 8th, hal deftly counters a lh specialist and gets me a single, then puts in a runner for him. he then attempts a steal of 2nd with a C rated stealer. of course the single and double that followed went for naught. Ahhhh!
