Garcia's Blog 3/20/14- Closers

PostThu Mar 20, 2014 4:01 pm

Hey guys,

Hope college basketball fans are enjoying the start of March Madness. Only took one game for an upset so a great start to the best weekend of the year.

We receive e-mails on a semi-regular basis asking the best way to get your closer in the game. It seems some people have this problem where their best pitcher hardly ever comes in. Luckily, there are a few solutions to this and some things to avoid to help get him in more.

First, check your "Do Not Relieve Before" settings. If you have this set to other relievers, remove them. Even an F8 setting to your setup man will likely keep him in the game into the 9th inning. If you want that pitcher removed for your closer when the 9th inning starts, remove that setting from the setup man. This is the most likely culprit to not having your closer pitch often. Other changes I would make would be to set your Closer Usage setting under "Team Strategy" to maximum. Again, your setup man may stay in the game more often if you don't use a Maximum setting. In addition, if you want your closer to come in earlier than the 9th, try setting him with "closer vs R" and "closer vs L" settings. This will try to get the closer into the game in the 8th inning rather than waiting for the 9th. You can also set the pitcher to the "Tied & 9th+" role to have him enter those non-save situation games.

Setting your pitcher roles correctly can go a long way to your team's success. You can view what each role means on the Online Games rules page here.

Another reminder that the 2014 Barnstormer's Tournament is currently taking entries! 152 users have now entered their name for a chance at the title but it's not too late to join! Prizes to the top two finishers include tickets to your favorite ballpark! For more info and to sign-up go here.

This year's Barnstormers Tournament has only 6 games to go in the finals league. You can follow the league here. The division leaders are still the same but the wild card race is filled with tension! Two teams are tied at 78-78 (and play each other Friday night) while 3 others are only 1 game back! Stay tuned to find out who advances to the playoffs!

That's all I have for this week. As always if you have any questions please let us know at onlinegamesupport@strat-o-matic.com. Have a great weekend and talk to you all next Thursday!

-John
