Hey guys,

First, I'm letting everyone know that the deadline for the 2014 Players Championship Event 1 is midnight tonight!! Quote from the tournament commissioner gbrookes:

gbrookes wrote:All you need to do is get your team in by midnight ET on July 10. It isn't necessary for the league to fill by that time. Entering your team by the deadline is all that is required to be in Event 1.

Please note that the tourney is best 4 out of 5 scores. So if you happen to miss event 1, you still have a good chance to succeed if you do well in the remaining 4 events. But there is a bonus score of 5 points for entering all 5 events.

For 2013 player set users, make sure to enter for your chance to win MLB tickets!!

Moving on, as I'm sure everyone has seen by now, ATG 8 was released yesterday! You can find the player set here. All the details have all been mentioned before but I'm going to say it one more time here:

ATG 8 adds 218 brand new cards including those 20 individual Negro League seasons. ATG 8 also upgraded 334 cards from ATG VII to their updated Super Advanced cards. Some players may have had their salaries changed as well. Lastly, 10 new ballparks were added to bring the total number of ballparks to 180.

What does Super Advanced mean? Every year Strat-O-Matic releases an older season or two each year in addition to the current season. These seasons are fully researched by Strat and the cards have all 'Super Advanced' features including accurate left/right splits, ballpark homeruns, groundball/flyball percentages, etc. While all cards in Baseball Online already have these features, some of them may have been computer generated if it was not already a Super Advanced season. So, we have been able to go through and replace 334 cards to their more accurate Super Advanced versions. Cards such as 1961 Mickey Mantle and 1971 Vida Blue now have a new, more accurate card based on thorough research. Any player that had a card in ATG VII that Strat-O-Matic has recently come out with an updated card has been changed.

How were salaries changed? All player cards were reviewed based on their ATG VII draft history and on community comments and some changed to reflect their actual value. For instance, two changes made were 1912 Tris Speaker dropping from $13.41 million to $11.91 million while 1922 Rogers Hornsby jumped from $12.39 million to $13.39 million.

What are the new ballparks? The ten new ballparks are shown below, including the two ballparks chosen by you! 1961 County Stadium and 1971 Parc Jarry.

1) 1938 Shibe Park SI L 1-11 R 1-5 HR L 1 R 1-11
2) 1961 Candlestick Park SI L 1 R 1-5 HR L 1-19 R 1-8
3) 1961 County Stadium SI L 1 R 1 HR L 1 R 1-8
4) 1971 Parc Jarry SI L 1-7 R 1-7 HR L 1-19 R 1-10
5) 1977 Anaheim Stadium SI L 1-6 R 1-6 HR L 1-2 R 1-12
6) 1999 Coors Field SI L 1-19 R 1-19 HR L 1-17 R 1-19
7) 2000 Cinergy Field SI L 1-7 R 1-7 HR L 1-10 R 1-10
8) 2000 Qualcomm Stadium SI L 1 R 1 HR L 1-3 R 1-6
9) 2010 Citi Field SI L 1-4 R 1-4 HR L 1-8 R 1-5
10) 2011 Target Field SI L 1-11 R 1-11 HR L 1-2 R 1-2

In addition to all this, various little changes to fix small problems with player team designations to help franchise leagues were made.

For those who would like to see all the players, or just the new/upgraded players, download the excel spreadsheet here. To isolate just the new/upgraded players, go to column AD (new or upgraded) and then click the SORT button in excel. This will automatically sort by that column and push the new players to the top followed by the upgraded players.

If you've already filled out your draft list with players under the ATG VII player set, you can convert it to ATG 8 by going to your draft list, clicking "change" next to where it says "Player Set: ATG VII" at the top, choosing ATG 8 and saving your change. In general, your draft list should remain intact with the exception of players who were upgraded or had changed their salary that are on your list. The players who were upgraded will be removed from your draft list completely. Those who had their salary change will show with the new salary except if the change in salary would put your team over your salary cap! In this case, the program will give you an error message and it will not allow you to change to ATG 8. You will either need to remove the affected players or start fresh with an ATG 8 team. If you've already joined an ATG VII league that has not drafted yet, you may pull your team out to switch your set to ATG 8, but then of course you will not be able to re-join the same ATG VII league.

We did have an initial problem with Eric Gagne, where his 2002 and 2003 cards had separate player IDs. We were alerted to it last night and were able to fix this right away. New leagues will not have any problems with this and we are working with the leagues that did.

That's all I have for this week. If anyone has any questions/comments, as always please e-mail us at onlinegamesupport@strat-o-matic.com. Talk to everyone next Thursday!
