Hey guys,

Following up on last week's Card Value blog, I wanted to remind users of the General Strategy sub-Forum we have.

The user Palmtana started a great thread in 2013 and he (along with others) continue to post links that help give users more strategy information on various parts of the game. You can find this specific thread here.

Other threads in this sub-forum include basic reminder questions about free agent penalty cut-offs, asterisk starters, etc. Others talk about how players perform in certain ballparks, how to set up your lineups, where to set certain settings, and how to draft under different salary caps. Lots of good information for those who have questions or are looking for playing tips so make sure to check it out when you have an opportunity.

An odd situation came up this week where a game played didn't show on a team's schedule or standings page. Although we fixed the problem, I wanted to show it here. The reason this game did not display properly was it was a 31 inning game!!! This most likely has been the longest game played on Strat-O-Matic Baseball Online.

You can find the game here: http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/game/424341/906.

The visiting Rangers took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th where the G-Men tied the game on an Edwin Encarnacion home run. No one would score again for the next 24 innings until Scooter Gennett's single squeaked by Jerry Hairston Jr and scored Danny Espinosa. Remarkably, in the bottom of the inning the G-Men were able to load the bases before Espinosa handled a 2B X-Chance (after committing an error on the previous play) to mercifully end the game.

Interesting stats for the game include both team's catcher's going a combined 0-24. Nolan Arenado hit safely 7 times in his 12 at-bats. Rick Ankiel pinch-hit for an injured Hanley Ramirez in the 6th inning and wound up 2-12 on the day. Of course the best stat lines for the day belong to the pitchers. Henderson Alvarez entered the game already at F0 in the top of the 16th inning and shut-out the Rangers for 15 innings before finally allowing the winning run in the 31st inning.

Alvarez' final line looks like this:

Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR PC ERA
H. Alvarez (L, 13-13) 16 14 1 1 6 6 0 236 2.92

16 innings, 236 pitches, only 1 run allowed and he still ends up with the loss.

On the other side, the Rangers used 9 of the 10 pitchers on their roster in the game. Bartolo Colon gave them 7 innings out of the pen while Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched the last 5 to win the game.

In total, this is one of the more unique and interesting games we've come across on Baseball Online.

That's all I have for this week. As always please e-mail in with any questions to onlinegamesupport@strat-o-matic.com. Talk to everyone next Thursday!
