Curious Play Outcome

PostSun Dec 10, 2017 2:10 pm

In the top of the 8th in this game Mickey Mantle leads off against a LHP and the indicated roll is 2-6. This is a Hr 1, DO 2-20 on his card. Yet play result is a ground ball out to 3rd? What gives? I know there is a super-advanced rule to simulate home field advantage which supposedly randomly re-roles a visiting batter’s at bat, but I figured we only see the subsequent role and never know when it happens. This turned out to be the first of two unlucky moments in that frame for the visitors, on the way to a tough finals game 2 loss. Anybody else seen this in their games?

Hmm...The only way for Mantle to ground out to 3rd base (no split) off of Eisenstat would be a 4-6 or 4-11. Now, I understand what Penmar Park home field advantage means.

I think this was the "guarding the lines" effect. These are things you don't see if you are not a CD-ROM player

I can’t find anything speaking to an option to guard the lines. Steve, if you can share a link or something, that would be awesome.

This is all I could find. While this is a "black box" strategy,, I can tell you that guarding the lines adds singles and robs doubles (and maybe triples)

When I play CDROM, I notice that most manager use the defaut "guard lines" always late in a game. I only use it with 2 outs, as I'd rather get the batter out (give up a few xtra base hits for more outs)

Thanks, Steve. That seems like the only explanation for the play. That hurt!

Guarding the line is one of the worst maximum rules. Some of the maximum rules are good; a few are absolutely terrible and should have no place in this game.
