Stealing Question

PostWed Jul 01, 2020 3:35 pm

Hey! Haven't been able to find the answer to this in the forums...when looking at stealing what does the star mean?

Ex. I have 1894 Delahanty and 1887 Tip O'Neill on a team, conservative steal setting, both not checked for steal more / don't steal. Their cards have the following steal stats:

Delahanty - B 4/- (18-13) - on the season 6 SB 6 CS
O'Neill - A *5/- (18-13) - on the season 7 SB 2 CS

What does the star in front of the 5 mean for Tip? (seems like most good base stealers have it)

It means, unlike, Delahanty, O'Neil does not have to establish a good lead to benefit from the "18" reading if not held on base by the first baseman.

From SOM super-advanced rules....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a steal situation, if a baserunner's good lead numbers are preceded by an asterisk and he is not being held on, the offensive manager automatically rolls the 20-sided die referring to the baserunner's first rating number. A dice frequency roll is not necessary to establish a good lead in this situation. An asterisk reading only affects steals of second base.

Also in online--a guy with a * rating is automatically held at 1B in any normal situation--so the two guys responsible for holding him fielding range is dropped by one (a 1 SS or 2B becomes a 2 when he is responsible for taking the throw) (either 1B and 2B or 1B and SS depending on batter being RH or LH)--so batter gets a little advantage in a possible single.

The guys without * ratings usually are not held unless safe chances exceed 15% (or at least 6 of the 36 chances to get the lead). It may be 20% but in windows game 15% is default so I am just guessing online uses windows default settings,
