a question on defensive replacements

I like to bring in defensive replacements when i'm winning late in the game 8th or 9th inning.

But Hal puts worse players in.

here are the 4 ppl I put in the system as defensive replacements:

1st box: Ivan Rodriguez (c) ....for Roger Bresnahan
2nd box: Tony Gwynn (rf) ... for Sammy Sosa
3rd box: Moses Alou (lf) ... for Max Carey
4th box: Frank Chance (1b) ...for Johnny Mize

so the time comes to put in defensive replacements and this is what happens...

Rodrigues goes in at catcher
Bresnahan moves from catcher to LF
Carey leaves
Mose Alou goes to RF
Sosa leaves.
Frank Chance stays on bench not replacing Mize.

Can anyone explain why this happens?

Am I missing something?

Any help would be highly appreciated

Scott.

Getting defensive replacements to do what you want is more art than science. With so many replacements, it becomes exponentially more difficult.

You might try using the defensive check box on the hitters preferences page more. So, instead of saying on team preferences for Rodriguez to come in at catcher, instead check Bresnahan to be replaced defensively on the hitters page.

There are times it only makes sense to use the team page for a particular substitution, but in general I have better luck with the hitters page.
