RELIEVER STARTING ON SHORT REST

How long must a reliever be 'idle' before making a start on 'full strength'?

I have a reliever who faced 1 batter in the last series. Will he be at optimum level should he start a game in the next series 2 games later?

Anyone pay attention to results in this situation?

Here's an example from the 1970's mystery league. JR Richard started game 38 at full strength after relieving in Game 35. There are many other examples.

What makes this example interesting is that J.R. Richard isn't a reliever and pitched Game 35 in relief only because it was a 23 inning game. You'd never think he'd be ready for Game 38 after starting Game 34 and pitching in relief in Game 35.

Here's a previously mentioned example. Koufax starting on zero days rest. Only the Sabbath can stop him from starting, apparently.

Here is another example. 1999 Pedro started Game 162 and I backed into the playoffs. Knowing he couldn't start I made him super reliever for games 1 and 2.
Pedro pitched 3 relief innings in Semifinals Game 1

Pedro then pitched 4 relief innings in Game 2

I scheduled him to start Game 4. He pitched 6 2/3 innings leaving after he dropped from F9 to F4

I don't know how the fatigue rule works though. This is the only time I tried this.

I guess it's best that this formula remain a mystery....and managers just share their own experiences like you guys did.
