I have a question concerning private messages. I tried to send several messages, but they are still showing in my outbox. Is there a waiting period for those messages to go out? Or am I missing a step?

When they sit in your Outbox, that just means the recipient has not yet read them. When the message is read, it will show in your Sent box.
