In the online game, it appears you cannot assign outfielders to other outfield positions as you can in the boardgame. Am I missing something, or is there some other way to do this?

It seems it would make more sense to play an outfielder that is rated as 1 in CF then it would be to play a LF with a rating of 4 in that same spot, as with the boardgame rules the CF would keep the same defensive rating of 1 if transferring from CF to LF.

Does the game "artificial intelligence do this as well? I.E., will it pay a 4 rated LF over a 1 rated CF to fill in for an injury to your LF?

Nope. It doesn't work like that online.

Yes, any player carded to that position, despite fielding rating, will take priority over a better defensive player not carded to that position....

Could that centerfielder then even play LF if not rated for it?

I've heard of guys carrying two CF and a RF, for instance, and NO OTHER OFers on the roster. Supposedly HAL, if you leave the lineup blank, will put one of the CF in LF, but I'm not sure what his range rating would be in this scenario.

Interesting. Would be nice if there was information from SOM on how this works in the online game. Not how lineup decisions are made, there are a lot of factors there, but how the defensive numbers get adjusted.

LOL, I might feel like Billy Beane sometimes! If I don't like the OF Hal keeps putting in, I'll just get rid of that OF and limit Hal's choices on who can play where
