I know there are more chances for middle infielders as opposed to the corners infielders but how do pitcher defense chances stack up compared to these other positions?

2 X chances out of 30. SS has 7, 2b has 6, etc

Pitcher is similar to 1B as only 2 chances of 216 each AB of an x-chart fielding result to the pitcher. (3 for 3B, 6 for 2B and 7 for SS)--generally the pitchers give up less hits than 1B on the x-chart (the 3, 4 and 5 rated fielding pitchers anyway), but pitchers can make more errors off the charts, max errors for 1B is e30 and max error for P is e51.

If an E51 played all 162 games they would make 51 errors on average--obviously pitchers don't play that much, so I don't sweat the pitchers fielding rating a whole lot unless two very evenly matched guys. I don't like a bunch of high error starters though--that can add up.

Yes, the errors by pitchers can add up. I had a very good fielding team, except for the pitchers, and their errors accounted for 28% of the errors made:

I had three starters and one reliever (who pitched a lot of innings) who were poor fielders.

Paxton 5-51
Despaigne 4-44
Garza 4-27
Betances 4-33

I picked Paxton, Despaigne and Garza because I thought they were bargains, not considering their defense, nor, in the case of Paxton and Despaigne, their lack of ability to hold runners on. Betances wasn't a bargain but was both a poor fielder and could not hold anyone on, even with Salvador Perez catching.
