thoughts on playing a 4 at ss

Hi,

I know this is an old topic, but it's the first time in 10 years I've personally considered it.

My situation:

- Keeper league, second season, 2015u. We barely made the playoffs in the first season. I'm in a pitcher's park.
- I played Andrus at ss every game for his glove (2e23). He slashed .200/.272/.263 in 450 PA vs. RHP.
- Against RHP, I had Corey Seager (.303/.359/.526) at DH and either Kang (.298/.349/.460) or Moustakes (.297/.369/.450) sitting out every game.

I'm thinking about putting Kang (4e31) at ss against RHPs to keep all three good hitters in the lineup.

But I feel like a 4 at ss is the biggest taboo in strat-o-matic.

Thoughts?

"Friends don't let friends play 4s at shortstop."

Seriously, I never tried it. I thought about playing Toby Harrah at SS when I used to play the 70s set. However, I couldn't bring myself to do it. Closest I come is using Buddin as my backup shortstop in the 60s set.

Let us know how it works out if you try.

I think you should do it. Andrus is worth 1.65M and he is 2L, and playing Kang at ss probably costs his value by roughly 2M, but that stills makes his value at 2+M and he is 2R. So vs rhp makes sense.

Great thread! I like the thinking and Marc's recommendation. :)

I'm going to try it, at least early on, and see what happens. Will d-replace with Andrus. I'll report back although the defensive liability will be harder to gauge.

Kang faltered offensively (.222/.280/.284 in 162 AB), and despite what his predicted performance was, I couldn't take having him out there at ss anymore. Defense was subpar but didn't lose games in a small sample. Team is competing for the wild card again, with Andrus (.219/.275/.303 in 356 AB) hitting better than Kang.
